I caught a glimpse, through the curtain of my hair hanging over my face, of mayhem. It was absolute mayhem here. Shouts. Feminine screeches. I saw a giant kilted man catch Jetta, by hooking her around the waist. Jetta was farther away, though, as if she’d been running away, which I’d have done if I’d seen one of us get thrown over someone’s shoulder. It struck me that the kilted guy was attractive. Were all these men that attractive? At a glance, it looked like it.

Tiffany was tangled up between two beautiful, humungous guys who were fighting over her. Celeste was on her back on the ground and a man was on top of her, trying to free himself from his trousers! She just stared open-mouthed at him. I would’ve kept staring in frozen horror at the absolute insanity happening beneath the pink and purple sky with all the beautiful men, but the man running with me secured me better over his shoulder, making it impossible for me to continue to see what was happening. The next thing I knew, I was staring at the gate. The other side of it.

We were outside the gate! Where were we going?

The man that had me was shoving past several men who may have been trying to stop him, who were definitely asking questions, asking him to wait a moment. One asked if he could watch the wedding take place. I heard a grunt as the man that had me knocked another guy over and then as it seemed like a bunch of people talked at once, my ears were filled with screechy beeping sounds that muffled everything. I squinted against it; it hurt. A lot.

But then the beeps went away, and it was just the two of us, in what looked like a big parking lot.

He stopped at a square midnight-blue box among other similar boxes. They looked like vehicles, shaped like miniature train cars with large windshields.

A latch sounded, a door rose gullwing style, and I was set down inside. The man climbed in beside me. I reflexively scooted over.

Our eyes met.

He was smiling. And panting. He was smiling wide and bright with dimples and perfect teeth. Those ice-blue eyes roved over me excitedly.

My heart, which was already beating ultra-fast, sped up as I took him in.

His longish black curly hair touched his collar bones. He wore black pants that looked textured; suede maybe. His black shirt was half undone, a button-down but collarless shirt of a similar, yet lighter and silkier fabric, rolled up to his elbows, showing off his tanned, corded forearms and muscular chest. He wore black footwear that resembled a cross between boots and running shoes, with heavy tread on the soles. As my eyes roved over him, his eyes moved upwards, and he hit symbols on the ceiling screen of the box we were in with strong-looking long fingers. As I eyed the screen, I heard his voice.

“Ready, go.”

The box shot up into the air. Eek. A flying car!

I squeaked in surprise and grabbed for the edge of the bench seat I was on. And then we were hovering. Hovering? I was pretty sure that’s what the box, err aircraft was doing.

My eyes darted to his, which were on me, roving over me, and it struck me – this was absolutely the most handsome and most masculine-looking man I had ever set eyes on. Was man the correct term, though? I was on another planet. He looked like an Earth man but about ten times better… as if he’d been Photoshopped to perfection.

My eyes dropped to his mouth, which was smiling big, then rose to his eyes, which were sparkling. He looked to be completely thrilled.

The scent coming off him filled the small space. He was perspiring a little bit after that run, a bead of sweat over one eyebrow, his tanned arms and his throat a little shiny, but the aroma was not unpleasant. In fact, it was the opposite of that.

“Tanya Smithers!” He was a bit winded. “I’m Zane Zenith. I’m very happy to meet you. Let’s get you home.”

He had a great voice. Deep, melodic. He reached for my hair, sifted a hand through it, making me break out in goosebumps, and then his smile changed to something so handsome, maybe even salacious, that it made me startle.

“It’s even softer than I imagined,” he murmured.

I startled some more. For a few reasons.

His mouth wasn’t moving at the same speed as his voice. I touched the pink gemstone earring they’d put in. He was being translated. Yet I only heard English and only heard one voice, not two. Strange.

Add to that, feeling the way I did after having been whisked away in such a dramatic way.

And there was also the fact that I was here. On another planet. And in a flying car! And he somehow knew my name. How?
