“If they bother you, then why do you wear them?” I just shrug, not wanting to admit the truth. “Where are your glasses?”

“In my bag.”

“Get them out,” he orders, and I do as I’m told. After I get the container and take my contacts out, I barely get the lid closed on them before Walsh is tossing them out the window.

“Hey!” I protest as I slide my glasses on.

“If they hurt, you’re not wearing them. Period, end of discussion,” he declares as he puts the car into drive. “Besides, your glasses are adorable on you.”

Right, adorable. I don’t want to be adorable, I want to be irresistible. He could have easily had his way with me, but he didn’t, and I wonder if it's because I’m not experienced. He said it wasn’t time for that yet. I hate how the doubt starts to fill my head as we make the drive toward my school. I bet he’s thinking how lame it is that he has to drive me back to freaking high school.

“I want you to stay away from the boys at school. Do you understand me, little flower?” His hand slips under my skirt to cup my sex. “This belongs to me until I say otherwise. You got that?”

“Yes,” I whisper, not wanting to think of when he might say otherwise.

“Good girl. Out you go.” He unclips my seatbelt for me, and I grab my backpack before slipping from the car. It takes everything in me not to glance back at him, and I fail when I make it almost inside the school building. By the time I turn around, his car is already gone.

“Nadia.” Kyle steps in front of me, and I realize I didn’t see him coming. Who am I kidding? I wasn’t paying attention to anything at the moment. All my thoughts were filled with Kyle’s father.

“I saw you get out of his car,” he says, and my eyes widen. Kyle stares down at me waiting for a response.

“He saw me walking and picked me up.” Kyle’s face is unreadable, and I’m not sure if he’s buying it.

“Right.” He suddenly laughs and shakes his head. “You’re not his type, you know, in case you’ve got some stupid crush on him. He likes them experienced and well…” His eyes roam up and down my body. “Those Instagram model types.”

Ouch. “I…ah…I don’t know what you mean,” I lie.

“Doesn’t matter. I really am sorry about the other night, and I want to make it up to you.”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” I say, and Kyle leans in close to whisper in my ear.

“Do you really want to be a virgin forever? I’d be doing you a favor.” His mouth brushes my cheek, and I jump back.

There’s a set of stairs behind me, and I fall backwards before landing hard on my ass. My skirt flies up, but I quickly push it back down. Kyle stands over me with a hungry look in his eyes and my stomach turns sour. I hear a few people snicker, and I wonder how many of them have seen my panties.

I push to my feet and walk back toward the car drop-off line. “Nadia!” Kyle calls after me, but I ignore him. I’d pulled out my phone to text my sister, planning to tell her I have a headache or something. Then I see my phone is busted. Again.

“Seriously!” I mutter to myself. That’s two phones I’ve broken in a matter of two days.

Turning around, I make my way back toward the school because I don’t have any other option. I use the phone in the nurse's office to call her, and it’s then the nurse notices there’s blood on my shirt. She pushes it up to reveal a scrape on my lower back. I must have hit it against one of the stairs when I fell.

This day started out so perfectly. At least I thought it did. Now I’m thinking I’m in way over my head. My plan for Walsh and me to have a fun fling fizzles out in my mind. He hadn’t even wanted to go all the way. I’m a silly, clumsy girl who has no clue what I’m doing.

How is this supposed to work when my head and heart are already all over the place? If this keeps going, Walsh will end up destroying both of them.

Chapter Ten

WALSH

It’s late, and I haven’t heard from Nadia since this morning. I was going to pick her up from school, but she hasn’t answered any of my texts. I waited outside, but she never showed, so I waited for Kyle to come home. After looking in his room and in the pool house, I find him in the game room blasting music while he plays Xbox.

“Hey,” I say when I walk in, but he doesn’t look up or turn down the music.
