“How so?” I manage in between kisses.

“Because this time, darling Mac, I’m not letting you go.”

EPILOGUE

I’m true to my word. I don’t let her go.

Oh, I’m patient. I’m nothing if not patient. I let the love of my life thrive and grow and get promoted at Elodie again. I let her drag me out dancing at two in the morning, and learn to scuba dive, and hold her hand while she gets a tattoo of a bee on her butt, for no other reason than it was on the page she flipped open to in the tattoo parlor.

I don’t let go, but I don’t ask, either. Not until she’s ready. Not until I know she’ll say yes.

And then she does, and I’m the happiest man alive.

The destination wedding is intimate and casual, at a very special little bed and breakfast in Vermont. The bridal party is small: my brothers with me, Stephanie and Collette with Mac. My family is there, of course, and her mom, with Richard who she keeps vowing to make an honest man out of.

The cake? We skipped it. Did apple pie instead.

Throughout the entire engagement, Mac threatened to wear black on our wedding day, and I rolled with it. She can wear whatever color she wants, just so long as her end destination is me. So, I’m ready for black. Green. Rainbow.

I’m not, however, ready for her choice of a fluffy white ballroom dress, nor am I ready for the tears in my eyes when I see her.

The only surprise bigger than Mac’s traditional dress choice is the fact that Mary and Annette have become close friends. My mother paid the down payment for Mac’s mom to open her own salon. Mac’s mom has already paid her back and made my mother her first client.

And speaking of hair, Mac brought back her blue streak for me as a wedding gift—her something blue.

My gift to her? A confession I’ve been holding on to for over a year.

I never tapped “no” on Mac on that dating app. She was a hell yes for me. Always has been.
