Clay slapped him on the ass. “I’m staying wherever this beautiful ass is going to be. It belongs to me, now. If you don’t want to go back home, I stay here. If you and Sky come home, you move in with me. This is serious, Indi. You’re mine. I’m yours. I’ve never been in love before. Every minute I haven’t been with you has made me batshit crazy. Hell, I might quit my job and follow you around like a dog in heat all day and all night.”

Indi laughed. “Fuck, who all is here with us. I need you inside of me now,” Indi whispered. “Tell me we are alone.”

“Baby, if we were alone, I would have already been fucking you. Now that I know I can be rough and you won’t break, I’m really getting into fine-tuning my skills in the bedroom. Practice, practice, practice—that’s what I always preach. Unfortunately, Hollister just went downstairs to get the boys. He’s having a difficult time getting them out of your playroom. Nice set up, by the way.”

“I hope so. It cost enough and then I had to kill the guy who installed it,” Indi answered in a bland voice.

“Very funny, smartass.”

Sky interrupted their banter with a low growl. She jumped to her feet and raced toward the door. Viciously growling by the time she got there. After barking at the door, she ran back and put her body between the door and Indi. Her growls were low and deep.

“Who the fuck is here?” Indi asked Clay.

After checking the window, Clay answered, “It’s Levi and some other guy—looks like a Fed. You know they all got the same look about ‘em.” He turned to Indi and asked, “Has she ever had a problem with Levi?”

“No, not after their first and second encounter. She picked up pretty quickly that he was friend instead of foe. Shit. What could be wrong and why in the hell are they here instead of at the scene?” Indi asked.

“Not a clue, but let’s keep everything close to our chest until we know for sure. Shit, I wish I had time to put a call in to the guys for backup.”

No sooner than he’d gotten the words out, there was a knock at the door. Levi called to them from the outside, letting them know who it was. Clay trusted Levi. When men are abducted together, you really get a read on the other person. Yet, something was off. He went over, punched in the code, and quickly returned to Indi, making sure to stand next to him instead of in front of him like he was dying on the inside to do. He doubted Indi would appreciate the extra protection. Damn, putting his constant fear for Indi’s safety was going to be fucking difficult.

“What’s up? Thought you guys would be at the scene all night. Find any surprises? Any sign of the guy who off’d the Doctor?”

The man with Levi stepped forward and rudely said, “You aren’t involved in this case. You’re a mercenary. The FBI doesn’t work with your type.”

Clay laughed. “Not even to get my statement? I was abducted right along with your partner there. And I actually do rescue missions, not mercenary work…although for you I might make an exception.”

Levi lurched forward. “Clay this is Daniel Marsh, Associate Deputy Director.” His eyes warned Clay to at least try to be on his best behavior. “Someone will be by later to take your statement. They’ve already taken mine. Associate Deputy Director wanted to discuss what was seen when Doctor Jusching was murdered. I explained that Indigo, Sky, and Hollister were in the middle of their rescue mission when the murder occurred. I wasn’t sure if Hollister saw anything.” Levi grimaced. “Sorry, Indi. I know that sounded rude.”

“You’re good and correct; I didn’t see a thing,” Indi answered, still confused by what was going on. Something bothered him about Levi and the Associate Deputy Director’s presence. What that something was suddenly dawned on him. Hollister was downstairs in the safe room with his brothers. He would have known the minute Levi arrived and would have been in the man’s arms seconds after he entered the house. Hollister viewed Levi as a father, one he loved dearly. Yet, he was still downstairs. Which meant…

“Hollister isn’t here anymore,” Indi said abruptly. “He told me to tell you thanks for everything you’d done for him, Levi, but he was scared…really scared. He borrowed some money from me and said he and his brothers were headed for the bus station—mentioned California but I don’t think his mind was made up.”

“Bullshit!” Levi said angrily. “Hollister would never leave without telling me goodbye. What’s going on, Indi? Clay?”

Why the fuck couldn’t Levi take a fucking hint?

“I can’t explain his actions; we barely knew each other. Maybe he was afraid of getting into trouble. The shit you’ve had him doing…made me do…doesn’t really seem true FBI form.”
