CHAPTER THREE

There was a soft knock at Indi’s door before he heard Hollister yell to identify himself. “Come on, Judas! Let me in! I’m alone. I promise.”

Because Indi could so believe anything Hollister said.

Like an idiot, Indi punched in the security code and let Hollister in. It was surprising to find that he was alone—no Levi tagging behind him to peddle some more of his bullshit and drugs. “Fancy meeting you here. I thought the plan was for you to bring me home after the drop-off.” Indi pushed the door closed and locked everything back up. “Let me guess. There was a change in plans. Wait, you had to leave early for a doctor’s appointment you forgot? Open heart surgery, maybe?” Sarcasm was Indi’s go-to.

Hollister touched Indi’s upper arm in a very non-threatening way. “Let’s go in here and talk about what happened. To say that I was surprised to see you being dropped off at home by Uber would be an understatement. You weren’t supposed to make it back from the airport. You or Sky. How did it happen?”

“Are you seriously asking me this? Fuck, telling me this?” Indi yelled as he shoved Hollister away. “I thought you and that fucking twat just set me up! Are you saying I was supposed to die?” Using instincts that Indi thought he’d completely lost until his fight to protect Hollister, Indi found where Hollister was and wrapped his hand around his throat. Damn, Hollister was small. “Are you saying my dog was supposed to die?” Snapping his neck would be easy. He’d done it many times in the past—just never to somebody that might not have deserved it.

“No,” Hollister squeaked. “Nobody was supposed to die! I can’t…I can’t breathe!”

Indi rolled his eyes. “Yes, you can breathe. There’s barely any pressure on your neck.”

“Oh…yeah, you’re right. Shit, it scared me after seeing you in action the other day.” Hollister placed a hand on top of the one Indi used to hold him prisoner. “Let’s talk, okay?” Hollister suggested.

Indi pushed him away. “Sure, let’s catch up. Hey, what was your day like? I smuggled some drugs into the airport and then came out to find that my ride had ditched me. How about you? Anything exciting?”

“I’m sitting on the couch now. Do you want to come over here?” Hollister asked.

“I know where you’re sitting,” Indi grumbled. “To be so damn little, you move like a herd of buffalo.” Indi took the seat across from the couch. “Now, talk to me. Give me a reason not to call the cops or snap your dainty neck.”

Hollister puffed. “Oh, trust me, you don’t want the cops here…you’ve already made that very clear.”

“What? No, I haven’t,” Indi argued. “I’m not the criminal—you guys are.”

“Well…technically…”

“Shut up,” Indi growled. “Today was just for shits and giggles—just to see if I could do it.”

“How did you do it? Levi said the stash was right where he told you to put it.” Hollister laughed. “That should have been totally impossible! Security was set up to be all over you!”

“Why would Levi have been stupid enough to set me up? He would have had to think of the possibility that I would roll and talk to the cops if I got caught? How stupid is he?” As soon as the words left Indi’s mouth, he knew. Hell, he should have known all along. “He’s a cop, isn’t he?” Indi finally asked. Hollister’s words from a second ago about Indi not wanting the cops in his house suddenly made sense.

“Bingo!”

“Dirty?” For some reason, Indi already knew the answer.

“Nope. Clean as can be. I’m an informant—not quite as clean as Levi but willing to put everything on the line for a second chance for me and my brothers. I’m taking a huge fucking chance telling you this, but for some dumbass damn reason, I trust you. If you take advantage of my trust, Levi might have me thrown in the slammer and, as Miranda Lambert says, I’m way too pretty for prison.”

Fury rolled over Indi as he recalled the night that started this entire event. “Are you fucking kidding me? He’s a cop and he lets his informant have sex for money? Hell to the absofuckinglutely, no! Good cops don’t pull bullshit like that, Hollister. He’s playing you.” Indi’s head was spinning. “I need a drink.” Indi got up to grab a bottle of Tequila and a couple of shot glasses. He had a feeling both of them were going to need it before the night was over. There was no fucking way he was going to let Levi use Hollister that way, regardless of what good Levi might be trying to achieve. Nope, not on Indi’s watch. Okay, bad choice of wording. He couldn’t watch a firework show.

Indi slammed the glasses down on the coffee table a bit harder than necessary but since Levi wasn’t there for him to punch, his poor table would have to suffice. “You drink?” Indi asked as he carefully poured himself a shot.
