Ollie and I still had no leads, which was pissing me off.

“I think if you don’t get out of the car right now then I’ll have to make you,” he said with his hand on the butt of his gun.

I restrained an eye roll because he looked a little too trigger happy for my liking. It was clear that he was blaming me for the bad date, and he was using this as some kind of power trip.

I sighed as I got out of the car.

Men.

He probably just wanted to show that he had the ability to get me out of the car, make me do a field sobriety test, make himself feel like a man then send me on my way.

What a douche.

Then there was the whole thing where he’d stormed the club and arrested Elden for trying to protect Violet.

Yeah, mega douche.

“You happy?” I asked, slamming my door shut a little harder than necessary.

“Get in the car.” He nodded to where his cruiser was parked behind mine.

“That’s a little much,” I frowned. “This has been fun and all, but I think we both internally agreed that we weren’t gonna do the second date. Give me the ticket, and let me get out of here.”

The grim line was now gone. Same with the blank look. His face … transformed underneath the glasses.

My chest tightened. Something about this situation was wrong. Something about him was wrong.

“You can walk to the car, or I can cuff you and drag you there,” he offered.

I hesitated, looking into my car where both my phone and purse were sitting.

Before I could argue further or try to jump back in my car and drive away, charges be damned, he grabbed my upper arm tightly, much too tightly, then dragged me toward his car.

“Hey!” I cried. “This is police brutality.”

“You were resisting.” His hand locked harder around my bicep against my struggles.

“Oh, so you want to lock me up so you feel strong?” I hissed, trying to plant my feet, hoping that this was the time Colby or one of his brothers decided to go on a midday ride.

“You’re really going to be sorry about that,” I continued. “The Sons of Templar kind of like me and everyone kind of hates you.”

He stopped abruptly, turning to face me with that warped, chilly expression on his face once more.

“Everyone likes you because you sell yourself, like a whore,” he spat.

My breath caught at the unexpected venom he’d spouted. Plenty of rejected men had called me a whore before. But this came from an angrier place. A violent place.

Understanding flashed right about the time everything went to shit.

COLBY

The second I rolled up to her car, I knew it was bad. My whole fucking body went ice cold as the gravel crunched underneath my boot, and I inspected the inside of her car.

The driver’s door was still open. Keys were still in the ignition. Her goddamn purse was sitting in the passenger seat along with her phone and wallet. Sariah never went anywhere without her phone, and she spent a fuckload of money on those purses.

“Nothing wrong with the car,” Jagger said, closing the hood after a quick inspection.

“There wouldn’t be,” I replied. “He has her.”

Jagger’s face was calm, casual. “We don’t know that, brother.”

I struggled to keep my shit together, pushing past the icy dread that had overcome me from the second I saw her car. It wouldn’t do shit right now for me to lose it.

“We fuckin’ do,” I countered. “He’s taken time since his last kill. He didn’t get Violet, and he’s pissed. He’ll be channeling that anger at the club. We know that. And he’s been lookin’ for an opportunity to take someone else connected to the club.”

Wire had worked up a full profile on the motherfucker. He’d looked at the time between each kill and had scoured the country, looking for what would’ve been his first kill in order to give us a clue to his identity.

The problem was, there were a lot of sick fucks in this country. A disgusting amount of savage crimes against women that remained unsolved. Even with Wire’s resources, his talent, and his ability to replace sleep with energy drinks, it had been taking way too much time to get this guy.

And we’d just run out of it.

“You’re right about all of that,” Jagger agreed. “But I can’t see this guy venturing away from his typical victim. Violet was only targeted because she stumbled upon him. He’s more likely to go after club girls or someone like Freya or Macy.”

Though Freya, Hades’s Old Lady, didn’t do it anymore, she’d stripped at the local club for years and had been pretty popular.

She was retired now, but that didn’t mean that she was out of his crosshairs. Which meant Hades was even more over the top protective of his wife, which was saying something.
