Colby lived and breathed for The Phoenix Center whenever he wasn’t at the club. He was there every second he could be, helping with whatever I needed. Heavy lifting, fixing things, building things.
He had painted the huge mural that greeted everyone when they walked into the building. A gorgeous Phoenix on a stark white wall, an explosion of fire and color. Not unlike the one on my stomach.
“My favorite thing about Italy is that you’re in it,” Colby’s warm breath hitting my neck bringing me back to our fabulous hotel room.
I smiled, leaning into him, reveling in the warmth of his skin, his scent.
“My favorite thing about Portugal was watching you eat pastel de nata,” he twirled my hair around his finger. “My favorite thing about Prague was watching you geek out over the historical buildings.”
“You don’t have any favorite things about traveling to some of the most incredible countries in the world that don’t involve me?” I asked him.
“Nope,” he replied without hesitation.
I shook my head, chuckling. I did that more often now. Chuckled. Laughed. Smiled. Enjoyed life. Cherished it like I used to.
Granger watched me from the shadows of our hotel room.
He was still here. Less now. And he didn’t seem as solid, as powerful. When Colby wasn’t in the room, I occasionally flipped him off.
I didn’t tell Colby about seeing him. He didn’t need to know that.
He knew enough. I’d told him snippets, but nowhere near all of it. I wouldn’t do that to him. To us.
Besides, I paid a therapist a lot of money to hear all those sordid details.
She was good. Although I thought the best benefit I got from the sessions was me purging everything I needed to without worrying about the effect it was having on those I loved.
Hades was the one exception.
We met for a drink once a month.
We didn’t say much. Sometimes we didn’t say barely anything at all. Other times, I shared about things. Horrible things. Whether it was something horrible that had happened to me or it was something horrible I was thinking, he listened. Without judgment.
Sometimes, enough to count on one hand, he told me things.
I listened. Without judgment. Interestingly, hearing all of his horrible things made me feel better about mine.
“Do you think everything is running okay?” I asked, my mind darting back to Garnett.
Colby sighed then moved to hover above me. “I know everything is going great because you have great people there making sure of that. And because you call every day for updates.”
I grimaced. I did do that. And I had people I trusted implicitly running everything. Deep down, I had absolute faith it was running smoothly. But this was my baby. The one thing I’d created that did good things. Something born out of the worst time in my life that did good things. Granger had been wrong; I still retained the ability to create life.
“I know, but we’ve got that emergency case coming in.” I was thinking about the woman coming with her infant child, fleeing a really bad situation with a dangerous man who’d be looking for her.
“Yeah, and the whole club is on it, protecting her. Kate is taking point on her intake,” Colby stated all of the things I already knew.
This woman would be well taken care of.
“You can’t enjoy our last night before we go back?” he nudged his now hard cock between my legs.
I was instantly wet for him.
“I’m enjoying myself plenty,” I whispered.
He smiled, his molten eyes sparkling, the expression warming up my insides. Right before his cock set fire to them.
“Love you, Colby,” I rasped as he slowly fed his cock into me.
He paused, froze, like he did every time I said those words.
“Love you, poppet.”
And then it was my turn to freeze, no … to melt, every time I heard those words.
Because I got it.
A good ending.
This might not be what happened to all the Final Girls, but it was what happened to this Final Girl.
