I tried to busy myself with different projects like looking for a new job and cleaning out my closet, but I didn’t have much luck. I was bored, but eventually, Wrath returned, and we were able to spend some time together.

Over the next couple of days, it was more of the same. Wrath would disappear for hours on end, then miraculously return. I was okay with it. I just enjoyed the time I had with him. It was just what I needed to take my mind off of everything that had happened with Garrett. I had so many questions about everything that happened, but whenever I asked about it, I always got the same answer—‘You don’t have to worry about him anymore.’

I was tempted to push, but I trusted Wrath and my father. I knew they would see to it that the right thing was done, and that included making sure all of those women in those pictures were okay. So with peace of mind, I spent my free time working on finding a new job.

I loved photography and desperately wanted to stay in the profession, but my options were limited. The closest photography studio was over an hour away. Not that it mattered. They didn’t have any openings, so I had no other choice but to explore other options.

I looked into secretarial work and other office jobs, and it was flat out depressing. I was on the brink of utter frustration when Wrath walked in. He came up behind me and looked over my shoulder at my laptop as he asked, “Whatcha doing?”

“Trying to find a stupid job, but I’m not having any luck.”

“I don’t get it. Why do you have to find another job?”

“I have to work, Wrath.”

“No, you don’t, but that’s not what I meant.” I looked up at him as I listened to him say, “You got talent. I’ve seen it. Everyone has. Just open up your own studio here.”

“Seriously? You think I could do that?”

“I think you can do anything you want.” He reached down, taking my hands, lifting me to my feet. “And if you want your own studio, then we’ll make it happen.”

“You’re kind of awesome. You know that?”

“So, I’ve been told.”

A smirk crossed his lips just as he leaned down and pressed his mouth to mine. His hands slowly reached up to the sides of my face as I opened my mouth to him. The kiss became demanding, sending an involuntary shudder down my spine. This man had consumed my thoughts, my dreams, my very existence, and now, at this moment, he was consuming my heart.

He reached for the first button of my blouse and began unfastening it as he asked, “Do you remember the night you asked me why I hadn’t kissed you?”

“Oh, yeah.” I nodded. “I remember it quite well. I believe you said it had something to do about sex and intimacy.”

He continued unbuttoning my blouse, then slid it off my shoulders, letting it fall to the floor as he said, “Yeah, well, there’s a little more to it than that.”

“Oh?”

“Um-hmmm.” He inched closer. “Growing up, my parents were extremely affectionate. They were always touching and kissing, and it drove me nuts. I mean, I was glad they loved each other and all that, but I didn’t want to see it. If you know what I mean.”

“Yeah, I get it.”

“One day, I walked into the kitchen and found them making out, and I had enough.” His hands moved to my waist, and he unfastened the buttons on my jeans. He lowered them down my legs, leaving me in just my bra and panties. “I said something God-awful and stormed upstairs to my room.”

“I bet that didn’t go over too well.”

“No, it didn’t... My dad followed me up to my room, and he was pretty pissed at me and gave me hell, but after, he explained why he was always so handsy with my mother.”

He reached behind my back and unfastened my bra, and his eyes sparked with lust as he watched it drift down to my feet. His voice became strained as he told me, “He explained that it had taken him a long time to find someone who got to him the way she did. She was his best friend. She made him laugh—which was something that didn’t happen often. She made him want to be better, and he told me to hold out until I found someone who could do the same for me.”

He brought his hand up to my face, gently brushing the pad of his thumb across my cheek. “You’re my until...”

“Oh, Charles.”

“I think I’ve known it for quite some time. It’s why I stopped kissing other people. I just couldn’t do it.”

Me being me, I had to say, “But it didn’t stop you from having sex.”
