The buyers inspected the load, checking each and every one of the weapons with a glimmer of satisfaction visible in their eyes. Once they were done, they nodded in approval, then handed me a sealed envelope. Without a word, they moved the crate to their van, confirming that the deal was complete.

Once they’d closed the back doors of the van, they got back in and drove away. That was it. The job was done, and I was left with a mix of relief and lingering unease. Torch clearly felt the same. “Damn, I’m glad that shit is over.”

“You and me both.”

“So now what?”

“We get our asses home.”

I closed the trunk, and as we started home, I couldn't help but wonder how things were going to play out between the club and Bruton. There were some definite pros to working with a man like him. We would make money like we’d never dreamed of making, but it would come at a cost—but none of us truly knew what that cost would be.

I was still mulling it all over when my burner started to ring. Thinking it was probably Cotton calling to check in, I immediately answered and said, “You’ve got Wrath.”

“Hey, it’s me.” Although she was whispering, I could still hear the panic in her voice as Mia told me, “I’m sorry to bother you. I tried to call Dad, but he didn’t answer. I didn’t know who else to call.”

“You can always call me. What’s going on?”

“I’m at the office. Garrett didn’t show again, and...”

“You’re still at the office?” I interrupted. “It’s after six. You should’ve already been outta there.”

“I know. I’m getting to that.” She cleared her throat, then explained, “I’d run out of things to do, so I went into Garrett ’s office and got on his computer. I wanted to see if he had any old images that needed editing.”

“And?”

“I found something really bad, Wrath," Mia revealed, her voice quivering slightly. “Like really, really bad.”

My mind started to race with possibilities, but I had no clue what an artistic photographer would have on his computer that would upset Mia. Figuring it was some hardcore pornography, “What exactly did you find?"

She took a deep breath before continuing, her words pouring out rapidly. "I found a folder labeled Date Night in his Dropbox, and when I opened it, I found all these images of women, but these aren’t the kind of pictures he normally takes. They’re very explicit.”

“Are you sure they’re his?”

“Well, they’re on his computer.” Her voice trembled as she told me, “Wrath, the women... look like they’ve been drugged. They could barely look in the camera. Oh, they’re just awful. Hold on. I’ll send you a screenshot.”

I waited a moment for the image to come through, and when it did, I knew right away that this dude was up to no good. The thin blonde was wearing nothing but a bra and a pair of panties, and she could barely keep her eyes open. “Damn.”

“Yeah, I know. They make my stomach turn just looking at them.”

“You gotta wonder why he would leave his computer lying around like that if he had that kind of shit on it.”

“Well, it was his personal computer, so...”

“How’d you get your hands on that?”

“I guess he took the wrong one or left this one behind by mistake. Or maybe he thought his silly password would protect him... Or maybe, just maybe, it’s a good sign that he left it here.” She sounded heartbroken as she muttered, “I know him. He wouldn’t do something like this... Something isn’t right.”

“Know him or not, you need to get your shit and get the hell out of there.”

She sounded on the verge of tears as she told me, “What do you think all this is? Do you think he’s done something to these women?”

“I don’t know, but we can figure it out later.”

She wasn’t listening to me.

She was stuck in disbelief. I got it. She didn’t want to think that her boss was up to no good, but clearly, there was something going on with him. Either way, I wasn’t going to take any chances, so I turned to Torch and said, “See if there are any prospects close to Mia’s office and send them over to keep an eye on her.”

“You got it.”

Torch took out his phone and started making calls. Mia seemed oblivious to the danger she could’ve been in as she said, “You didn’t have to do that. I’m about to leave.”

“Good. The sooner, the better.”

“I’m taking the laptop with me. Maybe Wyatt can figure this thing out.”

“I’m sure he can.”

“I really hope Garrett ’s not involved in something he shouldn’t be.”

“Me, too.”

“I’ll call you when I get to the clubhouse.”

“Sounds good.”

I ended the call, then slammed my palm into the steering wheel. Torch gave me a second to collect myself, then announced, “Riley and Cody are at the diner across the street. They’re on their way over.”
