“Nothing feels as good as you inside me.” I pout, then groan when his thumb lands on my clit.

“Challenge accepted.”

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

PIERCE

“Pierce!”

Jordan, dressed in a fluffy pink princess-looking dress with her makeup done and a crown on the top of her head, runs over and throws her arms around my legs, shocking the hell out of me. Sure, we’ve gotten close the past several weeks, but I didn’t know we’d reached the hug you when I see you stage yet. “Tilly’s mommy said you were in a fire, and I was so scared. I thought you went to heaven like my daddy.” She glances up at me with a mixture of fear and relief in her features, and without thought, I pull her up into my arms.

“I’m good, Princess.”

“You pinky swear?” She lifts her tiny pinky, and I hook it with my own.

“I pinky swear. Being a firefighter is my job. I was trained to go into fires and save people. Nothing’s going to happen to me.”

She nods solemnly. “My daddy died in a fire. I wish you were there. Then you could’ve saved him, right?”

“I would’ve tried,” I choke out, the lump in my throat making it hard to speak or swallow.

“Can we go ride the horses?” she asks, switching topics with a quickness that could give someone whiplash.

“Sure, but let’s first have lunch. I heard you guys made some delicious food.”

“We’re having a tea party!” Tilly exclaims, running out of the kitchen and straight for me. I set Jordan down and give my niece a hug.

“A princess tea party,” Jordan adds. “One day, when Mommy has lots of money, we’re gonna go to Disney and have tea with the princesses. Right, Mommy?” Jordan looks at her mom for confirmation.

When I glance at her, I notice her eyes are wet, and for a second, I wonder why. Until I remember the conversation Jordan and I just had.

“Hey,” I say, pulling her into my arms. “I’m okay.”

“I know,” she rasps. “But I didn’t even think about Jordan. I was so wrapped up in you, I forgot to call her. I had no idea that she knew you were hurt or that she was worried. We could’ve lost you, Pierce.” She sniffles back a sob, and I hug her tighter.

“You’re not going to lose me.” I kiss her gently, relishing in her pillow-soft lips that I can’t get enough of. “I’m not going anywhere.”

“Look, Tilly, Pierce is kissing my mommy!” Jordan giggles.

“That means they’re gonna get married, and we’re gonna be sisters!” Tilly yells.

“Really?” Jordan questions.

“No,” Kelsie says, bursting their bubble. “If we were to get married, it would make you cousins.”

“I wanna be cousins!” both girls exclaim, jumping up and down excitedly.

“Mommy, marry Pierce!” Jordan adds. “Then I’ll have a baby brother like Tilly!”

“Baby brother?” I question.

“Mommy and Daddy are having a baby!” Tilly yells.

“Sara!” I shout.

A second later, my sister-in-law walks out of the kitchen, holding a three-tier tray filled with dozens of tiny sandwiches and desserts. “Hey,” she says, out of breath. “Sorry, I was finishing up in the kitchen and—” She stops in her place when she sees us all staring at her and sighs. “The girls spilled the beans, didn’t they?”

“That depends. Are you pregnant with my nephew?”

“I am,” she says, a huge smile spreading across her face. “The girls overheard me talking to Beckett and promised not to tell anyone.” She glares playfully at the girls, who have the decency to look guilty.

“I’m sorry,” Jordan says with a frown. “I was just telling my mommy and Pierce that if they get married, then I’ll get a brother too, ’cause mommies and daddies have babies, and I want a baby brother like Tilly.”

Sara glances from me to Kelsie and lets out a laugh. “Did I miss something?”

“Jordan saw us kiss,” I say with a shrug. “And it all spiraled from there.”

“Oh, so you’re not getting married?”

“Oh, we are,” I say, flinching when Kelsie playfully—or maybe not so playfully—smacks my chest, silently telling me to shut up. “What? We are…as soon as you’re ready. You heard your daughter. She wants a baby brother.”

“Pierce,” Kelsie hisses. “One, we don’t even know if the baby will be a boy, and—”

“We’re having a baby?” Jordan shrieks. “Yay!”

“No, Lovebug,” Kelsie says, glaring my way before she kneels in front of her daughter, who’s looking at her in confusion. “Pierce and I are dating. That means we’re boyfriend and girlfriend. One day, we hope to get married and have another baby.”

“When?” she asks, making me chuckle.

“We’re not sure,” Kelsie says. “If we got married, that would mean we would move in with Pierce and—”

“Where does Pierce live?” Jordan questions.

“With me!” Tilly exclaims.

Jordan’s eyes widen. “You live here with Tilly? I thought you lived in your house with Cinderella.”

“No, Princess,” I say, trying to contain my laughter. But fuck, this kid is adorable and totally helping my case. “I do live in my house with Cinder, but I live on the property. Tilly, my parents, my brothers, and I all live here on this ranch.”
