I settle, taking deep breaths, recovering from the intensity of the explosion.

Of how good it felt being in Cody’s tight hole.

Of how good it felt to be in his arms.

He pulls off my cock, and I dispose of the condom before returning to the bed.

I fall into his arms, and we hold each other. Neither saying a word. Just keeping our arms around each other and glancing into each other’s eyes. I don’t know what to say, but I know what I want, now more than ever.

Cody

We hold each other, and I wait for him to speak. The ball is pretty much in his court right now. I told him how I feel, he said it’s not a problem, and then we fucked the hell out of each other. I’m kind of wondering what the it’s not a problem part means.

After a few minutes of silence, Hayden finally says, “It’s not what I thought it would be.”

I frown, not sure what he means. “What isn’t?” Me? Us?

“Chicago. I mean, I love the job in a lot of ways. It’s on the path toward what I always wanted but…” He shrugs. “I missed you. I knew I would but I didn’t realize how much.”

“I missed you too, boo.” I rub my hand up and down his biceps.

“You rhymed again,” he says.

“You gonna tell me you’re madly in love with me, or what?”

“Shh!” he says. “I’m getting there. You’re being impatient. Let me do this my way.”

I settle back, smile, and let him continue.

“It was lonely,” Hayden admits softly and I feel myself tense up.

“Los Angeles lonely?”

“Yeah, but not like that. I didn’t go out and start doing crazy shit or anything, but it just didn’t feel right. I missed Mom, Gary, Derek, but God, you. I think you ruined me. It’s only been a few months and I feel off balance without you.”

My pulse goes a little crazy. “That sounds like a declaration of love to me. Is it?”

“Oh my God!” He slaps my thigh. “I’m not there yet. Stop stealing my thunder.”

I tell him that I already did that when we walked in and I said it first. “Okay, I’ll be good. But can you hurry? I really wanna hear it.”

Hayden laughs and goddamn, I really missed that sound.

“When I moved back here, and I met Lance, as much as I cared about him and as much as I tried to make it work, I didn’t feel off balance without him. We were too different, but with you, it’s like we balance each other out somehow. You don’t make me feel like I have to be someone else. Hell, I can’t even blame Lance for all of that. I told myself I needed to be someone else, that I needed success or to manufacture dreams because of what my mom sacrificed for me. But with you…I’m just Hayden and I like who that is.”

I pull him so he’s lying on top of me. “I like who that is too.”

“I thought you said you were in love with me?” he bats his eyelashes.

“I’m not saying it again until you do.”

He leans forward, presses his mouth to mine, and then says against my lips, “I’m in love with you, Cody.”

Hearing those words is the greatest high I’ve ever been on. Like giving my first tattoo, fucking for the first time, and a big-ass piece of chocolate cake all in one. Maybe even more.

“You’re good people. You said when we met that good people are harder to find than money—good people are harder to find than almost anything, but I found it in you.”

Well, shit. I cup his face with my hands and kiss him. It’s a slow, exploratory kiss that makes my dick harden again. “I found it in you too. Jesus, we’re fucking sweet. Good thing we both got a sweet tooth.”

We laugh at my ridiculousness, but hey, at least we’re ridiculous together. After a moment, he says, “I saw Finn when I was there. He wanted to let me fuck him. Like I said, I told him no. I didn’t fuck anyone while I was gone—”

“I didn’t touch anyone either. I’m addicted to you.”

“Good,” he says.

“And I hear what you’re saying. You don’t have to finish. It was fun to play around, but now that I’m officially in love with you, I’m not sharing.”

I earn myself another laugh from him. “Now that I’m officially in love with you, I’m not sharing either.”

I let my fingers dance up and down his spine, thinking and then say, “Maybe you didn’t give it enough time.…We can try the long-distance thing…or I could go to Chicago. I don’t want you to miss out on a chance because of me.”

Hayden shakes his head. “No. I wouldn’t ask you to leave Doc. The job is good, but there’s more to life than that. Like you always say, if it’s meant to be, it will happen. If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen here.”
