“I’m happy to be more versatile,” I say. “Lance didn’t like to top, so I hadn’t done it in a while, but I think Cody was good at getting me back in my groove.”

Derek’s gaze shifts between me and Gary.

“I fucking hate both of you. Gary’s getting fat cock from Travis. You’re getting fat cock from Cody. How am I the only one trolling around town to catch a D?”

Gary smirks before saying, “Pretty sure you were always the only one trolling around town for D.”

“Whatever. I still get it in. I just can’t get my ass rammed every night like you two. I’m happy to say I ended up hooking up with that hot yoga trainer over the weekend.”

“That guy was unbearable,” I say.

“You know what else he was?” Derek adds. “A choker.”

“What?” Gary asks.

“Oh, yeah. He wanted to wrap his arm around my throat and strangle the hell out of me while he fucked me from behind. Guy’s a certified perv.”

“How did you get out of that?”

“Why the hell would I have gotten out of it?” He stares at Gary blankly, as though he really doesn’t understand what he’s saying.

Suddenly, I’m relieved things didn’t get more serious that night when I was on my date with him.

“But I still had to listen to an hour-long rant about his fucking accomplishments in hot yoga,” Derek says. “Time I will never get back.”

“You know,” Gary tells him. “I think you might be able to get steady dick if you actually find someone—”

Derek throws his hand up between him and Gary.

“I don’t need relationship advice from you and your perfect, big-dicked boyfriend.”

Derek lowers his hand and winks at Gary, who rolls his eyes before telling me, “So the real question is, are you actually going to keep seeing other people?”

“Yeah,” I say. “I made this date with Sebastian, that DJ I ran into the other week. We’re getting together next weekend.”

“Okay. Just see how it goes. I think you need to be careful about Cody, though. Not for any of Derek’s strange reasons, but just the fact that he is your roommate and if things get awkward—”

“I know, I know. I don’t need to be looking for a new place. Especially when the rent’s cheap, but Cody seems really cool and like, he’s not going to be weird about something like that.”

“I get what you mean. I just don’t want things to get awkward for either of you. I’ll admit I do have a stake in it since you’re my friend and Cody is Travis’s friend. Ideally, we wouldn’t want there to be awkwardness between either of you, but you do what you gotta do. We’re here for you either way.”

“And,” Derek adds, “I can be here for both of you if y’all need, I don’t know, say, another bottom to maybe come in and relieve you of your bottoming responsibilities?”

“Gross,” Gary says. “How can you even think about having sex with Hayden? He’s your friend.”

“What are you talking about? You have a dildo, don’t you? You’ll stick a fake penis in your dookie chute, but you won’t stick a friend’s cock in there? Jesus. Sometimes I feel like I don’t even know you, Gary.”

Gary and I laugh. “Thanks, Derek, for the offer,” I say. “And thanks to both of you for coming out today to talk to me. It is so nice to have friends who I can count on these days.”

“We’re here whenever you need us,” Gary says.

“Maybe not whenever,” Derek says. “Like in thirty minutes, I have a date.”

AKA a hookup with someone who’s probably as much of a dickhead as Roger.

“Like you said,” Gary continues, “if there is something there, you don’t want to have never given it a shot.”

Derek sips from the straw of his drink before saying, “But seriously, if you start getting all lovey-dovey and calling him your Prince Albert or something disgusting like that, I’m gonna hit you in the face. Hard.”

“I’m not really threatened by that, Derek,” I say, unable to stifle my laugh.

“I was trying to think of something I could do to you to make you choke me.” He winks.

“Gross, gross, gross,” Gary says, covering his ears with his hands. “Don’t even joke about messing around with Hayden!”

Derek chuckles. “I only do it because it bothers you. Now can we drop this relationshipy stuff? I need you guys to look through my new Grindr pics and tell me which ones work best.”

He reaches into his pocket and retrieves his phone. Gary leans toward him, clearly just as curious as I am to see what these new pics look like.
