King was right behind her, burying his rock hard cock deep inside her and filling her with a thick stream of his own before collapsing against her on the bed. His head rested on her breasts, his cock still inside her as they laid there in the aftermath of their passion. Being with her felt incredible. He knew that whether they were making love softly and gently, or fucking like rabbits as they had just done, there would always be an incredible bond between them. It was just something he knew instinctively.

“Let’s take a bath and then I’ll make us some dinner,” King told her, finally falling away to one side, idly tracing a single finger across her stomach and around the curve of her breasts.

“I’ll start the water,” she cooed, heading off toward the bathroom.

King followed her in, leaning down to kiss her neck as she tested the water running into the tub. He picked up a bottle of bubble bath and began pouring a couple of capfuls. Soon, she was tucked between his legs, her head leaning back against his broad chest as his large hands slowly bathed her while he planted kisses down her neck, a favor that she was more than happy to return when he was done. As the water grew cool, they stepped out and dried off.

King loaned her a pair of his pajama bottoms and a t-shirt, apologizing for her torn clothes. He had gotten a bit out of control.

“Well worth the loss,” she told him.

It was the beginning of something incredible. Jo knew she was lucky. She just hoped this meant something and that it wasn’t just a part of the act, or worse, a one-night stand with someone she’d continue to have to see every day afterward.

Her heart sank after they shared a bite of leftover quiche he had in the fridge and he seemed to suddenly remember he had to be somewhere early in the morning. This was the way it went with one-night stands. Fuck them and then get them out of your hair. Nothing she could say or do about it, though; she was now feeling like a paid whore.

They drove across town in silence, arriving at her place. At least he had the decency to walk her to the door, she thought, but he surprised her by kissing her again when they got there. He said goodnight and began to walk back to his car to leave, but stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and turned back.

“Fuck early mornings,” he said, “Can I come in?”

They fell in the door practically on top of one another, tangling in each other’s bodies as they stumbled up the stairs and into her bed, tugging at one another’s clothes until they were both naked and actively exploring one another’s bodies. Round two was no less nice than round one and Jo was ecstatic as she lay there sprawled across his bare chest.

CHAPTER TWENTY

Jo was still considering her options with the house when her cell phone rang from the bedside table. King had barely left her bed and she already missed him. She grabbed it in hopes it was him, but it was only Trey. She was settling down for a chat, when she realized how gloomy he sounded.

"Trey, what's wrong?"

"I got a call from the building permit people just now."

"Yes?"

"They've turned us down."

"What?" I said. "They can't have!"

"I'm afraid they have."

"But why? What's the problem?"

"There are several problems. First of all, as you already know, they will not grant a permit unless you agree to fill in the quarries. Second, they won't accept the type of windows we wanted. They have to stay in the current style. The outside of the house can't be painted white, or any other color. We have to keep the existing red brick. The skylights in the roof can't be done the way I planned, we'll have to rethink them. You can't have a balcony. The problem is that the house is in an area that's historically preserved. There are far more restrictions than I'd realized. This is going to be much tougher than we thought."

"Oh my God. What am I going to do?"

"We can sort it out. What I'm going to do is go and see them and talk to them about it. Unfortunately, I can't do that right away. They won't let me make an appointment until next month."

"A whole month? Oh my God. And then we have to wait another three months for them to finalize the permits?"

"Probably."

"So, I won't get the permit till the end of the summer, when it’s turning cold and grey again?"

"No."

"Then the quarries have to be filled in before we can start on the renovations?"

"Yes."

"How long will that take?"

"It's not clear. Several months."

I took a deep breath. "And the renovation work?"
