His giggles said he didn’t agree with me on that, but he sat up enough to give me a cheek kiss with wide, manipulative eyes. “Yes, Daddy.”

Brat.

But he was a cute brat, so I let it go.

“Good boy.” Nuzzling against his head as he lay back down, I ran my hands up his back and just let him get comfortable again. “And you’d be just as good if you had more dragon questions or if something made you nervous. Like dragon Daddy giving you kisses.”

That got a naughty snicker from the silly boy. “Not supposed to do that.”

So it was more social issue and surprise rather than dislike?

Scoffing, I let the sound speak for itself. “Questions are important, though. So we like questions.”

That had his head popping up and he rested his chin on my chest. “We do like questions, Daddy.”

And it seemed like he had one.

“We do.” I had quite a few for him once we were back on the getting to know the regular parts of our lives conversation. “What kind do you have?”

Yep.

Head bobbing side to side, he sighed and looked like he was trying to decide what to ask first. It was adorable and he was making me very curious.

“You said you had some mage in you.” Paxton managed not to giggle, but I could see he wanted to. “What does that do? Why can mages and dragons have babies? Do they have babies like humans? Do they like each other? Do they have babies with humans? Dragons like humans but do mages like humans? Are all the cranky people mages? Are all the stupid people mages? Are all the impulsive people dragons? What can I have to drink?”

So many good questions.

“I love how your mind works, cutie.” Kissing his nose, I tried to grab the first answers I could find. “Yes, all impulsive people in town are dragons unless nature is involved. Dragons do impulsive activities. Mages do impulsive things to nature. I think humans are just designed to be able to breed with anything, honestly.”

At least, that was how it seemed based on our relationships with them and most of the sci-fi movies I’d ever seen.

However, he needed a slightly better answer than that humans were just interesting because he was just blinking at me. “But mages and dragons come from the same place originally, so we’re actually close genetically. It’s just the magic that makes things curious.”

Very curious sometimes.

“What else?” There’d definitely been more questions. “Oh. About seventy percent of the cranky people are mages. Boyd is the only cranky dragon that comes to mind right off the bat. Stupid comes in all flavors around here but the mages are something special.”

Yep, very good questions.

But staying curled up together all evening and answering random questions would not help his thirsty situation.

“If you climb off Daddy and be a good boy and go potty, I’ll get you a drink and then we’ll get in the shower. How does that sound?” My question had him scrunching his face up and I had to fight the urge to smile. “Then we’ll figure out more questions.”

We needed a list anyway because I was pretty sure I’d missed a few answers.

“I like being clean.” Sighing, he lay back down again. “But I like cuddling and I’m thirsty.”

Laughing would not have been the appropriate response but he made it very difficult to hold back. “I can fix all of that. All you have to do is go potty and then I’ll be right back.”

Daddy had a plan.

“Right back?” His head cocked as he raised it. “Lots to drink?”

“Yes and yes.” Giving his bottom a pat that made his eyes go wide as a giggle escaped, I nodded toward the bathroom. “But if you don’t hurry, I’ll help in the bathroom and you won’t get something to drink before you get all clean.”

And his face scrunched up again before he shrugged.

“The internet said Daddies helped with all kinds of stuff, so I knew it was okay, but I’m thirsty and more thirsty and more.” He must’ve decided getting a drink was worth peeing on his own because he flopped off me and onto his back before rolling to the side of the bed. “Got to be a big boy and do it myself. Daddy can’t do everything. The internet said so too.”

I was really going to have to ask to see what sites he’d been visiting.

“You’re such a good boy. I’ll be right back.” He was adorably insane, and no matter how much I thought about it, I would never get over how well he fit into my life…and the town.

His dejected sigh almost made me laugh, though. “I’m a big boy.”

And not very happy about having to be a big boy either.

But instead of laughing, I got my ass up out of bed and grabbed my robe before heading to the kitchen. It was a ridiculously old-fashioned piece of clothing, but in a town where no one understood privacy, it was a very important piece of old-fashioned clothing.
