I take a deep breath, but nothing seems to help. Even though Asher is nowhere around, I still feel like my body has a live wire hooked up to it. Just the anticipation of knowing I’m going to see him again is making me crazy.

Never in my life have I been attracted to someone like I am to him.

And the thought that I have to contain it is going to drive me crazy.

He said he thought this was a bad idea, and even though I disagree, I can’t keep hounding him.

When thirty minutes has passed by, I go out to the kitchen. After pulling some vegetables from the crisper in the refrigerator, I set them on a cutting board, thinking I’ll make us a salad.

There’s footsteps on the stairs, and I hold my breath.

“What’s for dinner? It smells good.”

I try not to let my disappointment show. “Oh hi, Beau. Lasagna. I hope that’s okay.”

He comes into the kitchen, and his hair is wet from the shower. “Sounds good, but I’m going out. Can you put some in the fridge for me to enjoy later?”

He’s leaving, and I realize that it will just be Asher and me for dinner. As my stomach does a little somersault, I tell him, “I sure will.”

“Great. See you later.”

“Later,” I tell him as he runs out the door.

I’m cutting up lettuce when Asher comes in, and I’m surprisingly able to keep my cool. “Beau just left. We’re to put leftovers in the fridge for him.”

When I look at him, I hold the knife in my hand a little tighter. His hair is still wet from the shower. He has a form-fitting white T-shirt on and a clean pair of jeans. He looks good.

He’s staring at me, but I’m not sure what to make of the expression on his face.

“What is it?”

He comes a little closer. “You got some sun today.”

I know he’s right because I noticed it earlier, but it probably looks worse right now since I’m sure I’m blushing.

“Yeah, I did.”

He comes over and leans against the counter right next to me. “You should probably wear a hat tomorrow.”

I shrug. “I’ll put some more sunscreen on. I didn’t think to bring a hat with me.”

He grunts, and I turn to grab a bowl and start throwing everything into it. I set it on the middle of the island when Asher drops his little bombshell.

“We need to talk.”

I huff out a breath. I knew it was coming, but I didn’t expect to be fired on the second day on the job. I can’t blame him, though; I did it to myself. “We do need to talk. Can I start?”

His eyebrows lift. “Uh, sure. Go ahead.”

I nod and walk over to the sink to wash my hands. As I’m drying them on the dish towel, I tell him, “I owe you an apology.”

He interrupts me. “Apology? What do you have to apologize for?”

I bite on to my lip. “Well, for starters, you said that you and I are a bad idea, and I’ve been really unprofessional. I’ve continued to flirt with you, and I want you to know—”

I stop talking because he’s moved over to me, and he puts his hands on my hips and pulls me up against him. His voice is gruff. “You don’t have anything to apologize for.”

“But—”

He brings a hand up and cups my cheek. He’s staring at me as if he wants to devour me. His fingers caress across my skin. “Madelyn, honey, you don’t owe me an apology.”

I can feel myself melting against him. He leans in and rests his forehead against mine. “I can’t resist you, Madelyn.” Before I can fully react, his mouth is on mine. It’s a gnashing of lips and teeth, and in this second I’m ready to give up full control.

I wrap my arms around his neck and press my body tightly against his.

“I want you, Asher,” I whisper against his lips between kisses.

He tries to hold himself back, I can feel it. He tenses for a minute, but I know he’s not going to stop. His cock is digging into my belly, and he’s moaning my name. He pulls his mouth from mine with a groan. “I’ve tried to do the right thing, but I want you too.”

I pull back and search his eyes. “What if this is the right thing?”

He nips at my lips and closes his eyes as if he’s savoring my kiss. There’s a touch of sadness in his eyes as he starts to talk. “Besides you being my employee and the fact you’re only here for a temporary time, you’re fourteen years younger than me, Madelyn. On every level, you can do better than me.”

My heart is beating madly in my chest. “First of all, I love that you’re older than me. Second of all, I should probably tell you that I’ve never wanted anyone as much as I want you right now.”
