“That I’d want you?” he laughs.

Maze shakes her head. “No, I know now that’ll never happen but…”

I suck in a breath feeling all sorts of grossed out. “You were imagining he was the one touching you while you were being me.” She cringes and I hold back a gag. “That’s all sorts of fucked up, though it beats the idea of you getting off thinking about me.”

“What?” she grunts, pulling her shirt over her head. “Yuck. You? As if. You’re a fucking dirty bitch.”

Slade nods toward my bedroom door. “Get the fuck out,” he grunts, making her shrink back again. He steps into her before she’s able to flee. “Cause any more shit for me and my girl and I promise the whole fucking world will hear about this shit. You’ll be a joke.”

Her eyes go wide with fear and I watch as she swallows, trying to keep her cool. She nods and within the space of two seconds, she’s out the door.

Slade lets out a heavy breath as he turns to me and takes my waist. “Can you fucking believe that shit?” he says, leaning over the window with a smirk as we see Maze dashing out the front door and bolting up the road. “Just once I’d like to have a night where we don’t have to deal with other people’s bullshit.”

“Tell me about it,” I grumble as he pulls me against his chest.

Silence settles between us and suddenly the heaviness of our own problems is weighing down on me. “You know I love you, right?” Slade murmurs into the quiet room.

I nod against his chest. “I know. I love you too.”

Slade grabs hold of my ass and in one easy scoop, I’m lifted off the ground and placed on my dresser to where our eyes meet. Slade steps between my legs and takes my waist, much like Damian had done with Nessa earlier. “Are you sure?” he questions. “Because it hasn’t really felt that way since we were at the courts yesterday.”

“You know I love you,” I whisper, taking his face in my hands and hating the uncertainty that shines back. “You just made me so mad. I hate when you and Damian fight over stupid bullshit. Usually, it’s just something ridiculous, but yesterday it felt more like an attack. You know him better than anyone and sometimes, I feel like maybe you know him better than he knows himself and all this Nessa bullshit was freaking him out.”

“Exactly,” he says. “I’ve known how he feels about her for months now and I was sick of their bullshit tip-toeing around the topic. They were both fucking miserable when all they needed was a little push to find happiness. I gave him that push.”

“No, you gave him a black eye and a split lip.”

“Hey, he’s not completely innocent in all of this. I haven’t been able to eat all fucking day and I’m pretty sure he bruised a rib.”

“I know, you’re both fucking idiots, but what I’m trying to say is that I just didn’t like it. You said he was the one looking for a fight, but really, I think you were too. I think all this Lucien bullshit was getting to you and you needed to let off some steam.”

Slade’s forehead drops to mine. “You might be right about that,” he whispers.

“I know I’m right about that,” I tell him. “But if that’s what you really wanted, you could have done it without forcing Damian to admit to something he wasn’t ready for.”

“You see, that’s where you’re wrong,” Slade says. “He was ready. He was just being too fucking stubborn to make it happen and seeing as though he’s in your kitchen with his tongue down his new girlfriend’s throat, I’d dare say I was right.”

I let out a breath. “Fine. You might have been a little bit right.”

“Does this mean you’ll forgive me for messing up his face?”

I press my lips into a tight line, hating to be the one to give in first. “Maybe.”

“You know I love it when you’re mad. You’re all fiery and wild, but at the same time, I fucking love it when you can’t get enough of me. Forgive me, Virago, and then we can move on to make-up sex.”

I raise my chin, gently brushing my lips over his. “But we never got to have angry sex.”

Slade grins as his eyes fill with excitement. “Well, damn. I can get on board with that. How angry do you want it?”

Slade kisses me deeply and as his hands fall to the hem of my shirt and starts tugging it up my body, the bedroom door flies open and we find Damian standing before us with a cringe. “Uhh…you guys are going to want to come and handle this.”

“The fuck?” Slade grunts. “Handle what?”
