His face scrunches into a mess of hard lines before he lets out a low guttural groan. “Fine.”

I grin with pride as I watch him throw a little hissy-fit before finally stepping out of his car and jogging across the lawn. He gets over to me and practically forces my head back through the window. “Here, shove your ass up on the ledge and I’ll lift your legs over. Don’t try and do it yourself, your leg isn’t ready for that.”

I roll my eyes. How is it possible for all these guys to be so overprotective? Don’t they remember who I am? I’m more than capable of looking after myself. But…I also really want to get out of here and to make this car ride as peaceful as possible, so I scoot my ass up onto the ledge.

“Hold onto the frame or something. My life wouldn’t be worth living if you fell.”

I chuckle to myself. He’s damn right. Slade would make his life a living hell if I was to get hurt after convincing him to sneak me out against doctor’s orders but like hell I’m going to sit here and suffer all week. I need a little entertainment outside of this house.

I get comfortable on the ledge and latch onto the frame above my head. Damian shakes his. “Are you sure about this? I can come by after and tell you how it went.”

“You have three seconds to get your bitch ass into action and get me out of this house otherwise I’ll be the one making your life not worth living.”

He rolls his eyes and lets out a dramatic sigh. “Fine, but let's make this quick. I can’t be late.”

“Ahh, it seems you’re finally catching on.”

Damian scowls at me and leans inside my room before scooping his arm under my thighs. “Hold on,” he cautions before lifting both of my legs over the window and placing them down softly on the grass.

I duck my head under the frame and let Damian grab hold of me as he helps me off the ledge. I check my pocket for my phone then pull my window closed and I stare back inside my bedroom at my pillow-stuffed bed. I did a good job!

“You ready?” Damian questions. I nod and before I have a chance to hobble across the grass, he scoops me up and jogs back across the lawn. I’m practically shoved in his car and within the blink of an eye, he’s sitting beside me in the driver’s seat and peeling away from the curb.

We get to the school in record time and I must admit, all this time I had assumed Damian was a shitty driver. No offense to him, he just looks like the type to cut corners and ignore traffic laws but somehow he managed to get us here with plenty of time, safely, and without hitting a damn bump. I guess if Slade is going to kick his ass, then he might as well make the best of it.

Damian helps me out of his Mustang and just as we’re about to start making our way toward the gymnasium, he stops and looks at me. “I really think we should go back and grab your crutches. Once I get you to the gym, that’s it, I can’t help you any more than that.”

“Damian, if you even so much as put an arm around me to help me walk in front of all these people, I’m going to castrate you. Besides, Nessa is here somewhere. If I need something, she’ll help.”

Damian glares but his glare is nowhere near as lethal as mine and he begrudgingly gives up. “Fine, but I’m helping you until we reach those people. There’s no reason you should make yourself suffer longer than necessary.”

Without giving me a chance to fight him on it, he steps into my side and curls an arm around my waist, pulling me along while doing his best to keep my feet off the ground. I give in, there’s really not a lot I can do for myself here.

The smart thing would have been to stay home and let my leg rest. There’s still a nasty gash on my head and my rib isn’t exactly my best friend, but this is Slade we’re talking about. He’s the man I want to spend forever with and there’s no way in hell I’m going to miss another one of his games. It was bad enough that I couldn’t watch him play last week while I was stuck in the hospital, I won’t be letting that happen again.

“Geez, we would have made a great couple,” Damian muses.

“The fuck?” I grunt, looking up at him. “We would have killed each other in two seconds.”

“And how’s that any different to you and Slade?”

“Well, we’ve got the whole sexual attraction thing going on, so instead of murdering me when he’s pissed, he just slams me up against a wall and fucks me until I scream.”
