“Oh.” He mumbled something unintelligible around the donut but his scrunched-up face made it clear what he thought of that plan. “Um, Tuesday?”

“No.” Pointing to his coffee, I shook my head. “Once you’ve caffeinated, you can try again.”

His sigh was adorable but he liked it when I glared at him, so I didn’t bother trying to look understanding. “Okay.”

Yeah, he needed to get off his ass about the Santa thing because I needed a better arsenal of weapons.

Randomly ordering him around would only get me so far because eventually he’d realize he could tell me no without there being much of a consequence.

“I think…” Stopping what sounded like halfway down the stairs judging by his clomping, Terrence sighed. “No. That’s probably not. Ugh. Never mind.”

Orlando managed not to giggle or even look too guilty as Terrence wandered back upstairs, but Sergio was nearly shaking and gave away their shenanigans.

They’d actually done it.

Anyone else would’ve freaked out and fired us, but Terrence had just sighed and was probably wondering if he’d done something with his missing sex toys.

“You two.” Shaking my head, I tried to pretend we were professionals. “Finish up.”

If we got fired, I was definitely telling my mother on them…then she’d tell their mothers.

Working with family was hard sometimes, but I was betting most relatives weren’t like mine. “If we get fired, I’m tattling.”

Carlo finally gave into the snickers he’d been holding back. “At least I can tell the moms that I wasn’t involved.”

“This time.” He was usually in the thick of the drama and egging everyone else on. “You don’t seem to be involved this time.”

“But will she believe it is the question.” Sergio nearly bounced back to work, smiling as Carlo rolled his eyes and gave a dramatic huff. “That’s what I thought.”

With that settled, we managed to get a few minutes of steady work in before the next round of distractions popped up.

Terrence had called his friend.

Somehow he didn’t realize little soundproofing had been done in the house and it was easy to hear most of what he was saying.

“No, you don’t understand. I didn’t just lose one dildo. They’re all gone.” Terrence sounded frustrated as I gave anyone who even thought about giggling a death glare. “No. All. I’m sorry. That’s just not reasonable.”

His tone said he thought whatever his friend had said was stupid. “They didn’t walk away and I haven’t used that glittery plug in months after everything coming out sparkled for days.”

For fuck’s sake.

“I know. I haven’t bought any more from them. But it was cheap.” Terrence’s huff echoed through the house. “Fine. Yes, it was a bad idea. No more discount toys. But that’s not the problem now. I’m not shitting glitter. It’s just gone.”

The quiet in the kitchen was starting to be suspicious, so I gestured for them to keep going. I got a lot of pouts, but they went back to work.

Just very quietly.

“Okay, that’s possible.” His friend must’ve been lecturing him for a while because Terrence was incredibly quiet before we got more of his side of the drama. “Do you think I should somehow work it in a conversation that we don’t experiment with glittery things?”

He thought one of us was going to use it?

Every head in the kitchen cocked and I was too scared to ask what they were thinking. The answers would’ve scarred me.

“You’re right. There’s no subtle way to work it in.” Terrence seemed more frustrated about that than he did the disappearing sex toys. “You think? But they bought me donuts yesterday.”

Hmm.

What did his mysterious friend think?

We hadn’t seen him in person, but judging from the conversations we’d overheard, he was snarky but tolerated Terrence’s personality quirks fairly well.

“I guess that’s an idea.” His tone was slightly suspicious, though, so he hadn’t liked whatever his friend had said. “I don’t like that game, though.”

More silence filled the house and then there was a slightly muffled crash.

He really needed to get that bed fixed.

“That’s a lot to put on me.” His disgruntled tone had us all curious. “But I’m getting presents. And attention. And cards. I got chocolate this morning. Why would I want to figure out who my Secret Santa is?”

Ah.

The dickheads around me were barely breathing they were working so hard at holding in their laughter.

“Well, yes. I guess so.” The low sounds I managed to catch might’ve been grumbling but it could’ve been him cursing. “Yes. Ugh. I hate it when you make sense. Yes. Getting fucked by my Santa would be much better than doing it myself. And Christmas. Yes.”

So there were benefits to being a real person?

That was good to know.

“But what—” Terrence went silent as his friend seemed to cut him off. “Fine. Fuck with Santa and he’ll make sure I don’t get fucked.”

Oh.

Interesting takeaway.

I was going to remember that going forward…even if I hadn’t done it in his current predicament.
