I shoved Cam playfully. “This is why Sawyer is the nicer brother. I like Sawyer much better.”

“Well, someone has to,” Cam replied, and Sawyer flipped him off. “Seriously, though. It is good to see you happy.”

“It’s good to be happy.” I hadn’t realized what I was missing until I let myself fall for Rush Alexander.

“Though I have to admit, I’m a little worried. First Beau and Ash, then Dax and Jace, now you and Rush. What’s happening to us? I can’t quite figure out why everyone is deciding to settle down and fall in…love.” Camden whispered the last word as though it were dirty. And yeah, I probably felt the same as him a few months ago.

“I know, right?” I replied.

“You’re both ridiculous. You know there’s nothing wrong with settling down. And all the hookups…don’t get me started. Not that I judge, but I just… I don’t know. Whatever.” Sawyer shrugged.

Sawyer rarely hooked up. I mean, he did because, well, I assumed he had needs like the rest of us, but he was different about it. He didn’t go out looking for sex, and he was picky as fuck about it. Case in point, we all knew Carter wanted in his pants, but it would never happen.

“My little brother is looking for love.” Cam batted his lashes playfully.

“What are you? Twelve?” Sawyer tossed back. “At least I’m not trying to fuck a straight guy.”

“I’m not trying to fuck Jude. If I were, I would have done it already. I just think he’s hot and I enjoy telling him.” Camden looked at me. “Is he really straight?”

I shrugged because I wasn’t getting involved in that shit. Jude’s business was Jude’s.

“How are you doing with Rush being gone every weekend?” Sawyer asked.

“Why would that be a big deal?” Cam questioned. “Rush has always spent like eight months a year gone every weekend.”

“That was before they were together. It’s different now,” Sawyer answered him.

Camden continued, “Why would it be different? Linc knew that going into it. He knows Rush will come home to him. I don’t get it.”

“That’s because you have issues,” Sawyer replied.

“Am I needed for this conversation, or are the two of you fine without me?” I cut them off.

“What’s it got to do with you?” Cam nudged me. “I’m kidding, Short Stuff. Continue.”

“Thank you.” I smiled. “And it’s fine…of course it’s fine with Rush being gone. As Cam said, this isn’t something new. It’s always been that way.”

Sawyer said, “Liar,” trying to cover it with a fake cough.

“I take it back; you’re not the nice brother anymore.”

“Come on, Linc. You might think you’ve done a good job all these years, keeping a distance, but we see you, we know you. It’s understandable. It’s your first real relationship. It’s okay to miss him.”

Ugh. There was no point in trying to hold back. “Oh my God. I miss him so much, and I know it’s ridiculous. He’s only gone for a few days, and he’s always done this. He comes straight to me the second he gets home, but…I still miss him.” Love was fucking with me. That wasn’t something I should have admitted.

“People in relationships are weird,” Cam added.

“You have issues,” Sawyer told him.

“So you’ve said,” Cam answered.

Sawyer looked at me again. “You’ll be fine. It’ll take some getting used to, just like everything else, but you guys will be okay. And maybe you can go with him sometimes. It helps that you only work three days a week.”

I nodded. “That’s what Rush said too.” Logically, I knew it was true, just as much as I knew this was something I would have to deal with. Racing was Rush’s passion…his career. That wasn’t likely to change.

“You got this, Short Stuff,” Cam said, nudging me again. The waiter showed up with our food—perfect timing. The last thing I wanted was to finish this conversation.

“Any news on how much we raised for Trey and his dad?” Sawyer asked.

Now that I could talk about. “We should find out tomorrow. I can’t wait to tell Rush!”

Without him, it wouldn’t have happened in the first place. None of this would have.

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR

Rush

Rush Alexander has been a man on a mission since he returned…but he seems eager to get home too.

I’d had the fastest qualifying times of the night. It was the last race of the season, held in Vegas. I loved the track there. It had always been one of my favorites. Because of my qualifying times, I had my choice of starting gate. My bike rumbled beneath me, the loud sound of moto engines all around me, mixed with the cheers from the crowd.

The second the gate dropped, I twisted the throttle and was off. My bike was racing around the first corner, just barely ahead of the group, all vying for the hole shot—the hole shot that was mine.
