“Not too bad. Should get my sling off soon. If all goes well, I’ll be back out there a week or two afterward.”

“Nice,” Jace replied, then looked at Rush’s good hand, which was now massaging the back of my neck. Fuck, that felt good. Why hadn’t I done this boyfriend thing earlier? “Finally!”

“Right? I haven’t even known you guys long and I was wondering when you were getting together,” Dax added, and yes, everyone laughed again.

Did I mention I hated them?

“Now I feel left out,” Carter said. “I didn’t know they were like…written in the stars or whatever. Can I watch?” he teased.

“Sure,” I replied just as Carter’s eyes scanned our group, stopping at the end. “Oh, well. Hello there, sexy. The glasses are new. I think I’d rather play with you.”

Carter zeroed in on Sawyer, and I knew there wasn’t a chance in hell that was happening. Sawyer was specific in what he wanted in a man, and even though Carter was sexy as hell, he wasn’t Sawyer’s type. Sawyer needed nice guys, and Carter had bad boy written all over him. It even took Sawyer a bit to warm up to Ash, because apparently he’d hated Ash in high school.

“No, thank you,” Sawyer replied, surprising none of us from the Saturgay crew.

“Can you repeat that? I’m not quite sure I’ve heard that word before,” Carter answered before Dax grabbed the back of his shirt and tugged him away.

“And on that note, we’re out of here,” Dax told us. “We just wanted to stop by and say hi.”

“Not fair. You’re always ruining my fun.” Carter crossed his arms and poked out his bottom lip as Jace and Dax said goodbye and walked away.

“Fucking hate guys like that—too confident, want to fuck everyone and think everyone wants them too,” Sawyer grumbled.

“Oh, so you hate me?” I asked. “Well, before Rush. I don’t want to fuck everyone now.”

“Aww. I’m touched,” Rush replied.

“So you hate me too?” Ash asked. “I’m the confident part, and well…I also know everyone wants to fuck me.”

Beau looked over at Rush. “What did we get ourselves into?”

“I don’t know, man. I don’t know,” Rush replied, then looked at me. “Come dance with me, Red.”

“Of course I’ll dance with you. Can you rub your hand up and down my back again? And my abs too. So hot.”

“Oh, hey. Before you guys go, I’m going to text you some info about Beau’s surprise birthday party,” Ash said, and we all looked at him like he’d lost his damn mind.

“You’re aware Beau is right beside you, correct?” Cam asked.

“Yeah, but it was Kenny’s idea. He spoke about it too loud and Beau heard, but we didn’t want to ruin it for K-man, so it’s a surprise party without the surprise.”

“Kind of like when you realized you’re gay? Like a surprise but not a surprise?” I asked.

“Fuck you, Linc.” Ash grabbed me, pulling me into a headlock and giving me a noogie.

When he let go, I pulled away and straightened my hair. “Ugh! This is what happens when you hang out with jocks! Does my hair look okay?”

Laughing, Rush began to pull me away. “We’ll look for the text.” And then we found our own corner of the club to dance.

Me and my boyfriend, for the whole bar to see.

And it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

Rush

Time is approaching for Rush Alexander to return and shake up the supercross season again!

I pumped my legs on the stationary bike, increasing the speed. Sweat poured down my body. The stupid fucking sling was sticking to me and itchy, but I kept going, pushed myself because it was important I kept in shape for riding.

“Holy fuck. You only have one arm and you’re still killing me,” Jude said as he ran on the treadmill beside me. “I can’t keep up with your superhuman ass.”

He slowed down, and I glanced over at him. “Can’t hang? It’s only been an hour, and I don’t need both arms to ride a bike.”

“Only been one hour…only one hour, he says. Fuck you very much, Rush.” Jude laughed, jumped off the treadmill, and wiped the sweat off his face with a towel. It was nice working out with him again. Jude was in shape, but he wasn’t a professional racer, so he always cut his workout short and I always gave him shit about it.

He picked up his water bottle and drank the whole thing before walking over and sitting against the wall, knees bent, feet flat on the floor. I felt like shit that we hadn’t had more time together since he arrived. We were living together, and I wasn’t racing. I knew something was going on with Jude, and I hadn’t made more time to figure out what it was. That was shitty of me.
