We ride to my house, and as soon as we’re parked out front, she climbs off and pulls the helmet off, her long black hair flowing over her shoulders.

“Can you actually cook?” she asks.

“Of course I can,” I tell her, my eyebrows knitting together in offense.

“Okay, just making sure.” She shrugs, and I grab her hand to lead her to the house. When we reach the door, I lift her finger and put it to the lock, and the house unlocks.

Lissie looks at me and says, “I may break in to steal my book back since you refuse to give it back.”

“You’re in luck. The book is here. But you won’t get it until after dinner,” I tell her as I walk to the kitchen.

She looks around, as she did last time. “I really love this house,” she gushes.

“So do I.”

Lissie enters the kitchen as I’m pulling out the steaks I have marinating.

“Can I help?”

“No, you sit. I take it you don’t want a glass of wine, considering you drank so much last night.”

“Oh, gosh, no. I couldn’t think of anything worse right now. Do you have soda?”

I reach into the refrigerator, grab a can, and then hand it to her. Then, I turn on the stove and heat up a pan to cook the steaks. I already have the sides prepared. Once I’ve got the steaks in the pan, I open the fridge and pull out the salad and pasta.

She looks everything over and smiles. “It smells so good.”

“What did you do today?” I ask, glancing over my shoulder at her.

She pushes her hair behind her ear and looks down at the food. “Letti and I got manicures and massages. It was the best. I haven’t felt that special since I was a kid,” she says. “My mother used to take me to the movies and out for ice cream every birthday. After she died, I never really celebrated my birthday much.” She shrugs. “Well, Cody never did either, I guess.”

“Why did you even marry him?” I’ve always wondered what she saw in that piece of shit that made her want to spend her life with him.

“He was what I thought I needed. He was there for me when no one else was.”

“What about your sister?”

She raises her eyes to me with a small, sad smile. “She’s good now, but back then, not so much.”

“That’s why Cody borrowed the money and made you pay it back.”

Her eyes go wide. “He told you that?”

“No, but I figured it out after six months of you showing up.” I take the steaks off and plate them up, offering her one.

“Why did you agree to it?” she asks, not meeting my eyes. “Did you know I wouldn’t sleep with you?”

“I didn’t agree. I requested you,” I tell Lissie truthfully.

She sucks in a breath, like she can’t believe the words, and shakes her head. “What do you mean you requested me?”

“He borrowed money from me, and I gave him the same rules as anyone who borrows from me… I get it paid back with interest or I take it from you. With him, though, I added on the condition that you would visit me.”

“You didn’t even know me,” she says, confused.

“But I’d seen you, and that was enough,” I reply. And it was. I knew the minute I saw her that I wanted to know more about her. I wanted her around me in any way I could get her. So when that desperate fuck came and begged for more product and then money, I made a plan.

“I don’t know how to take that,” she says, looking down.

“Just eat your steak. We have to go upstairs soon and read.” I smirk at her.

“Milo.”

“Hmm?”

“Thank you.” She cuts into her steak.

And I sit here like a fucking stalker and watch her eat.

Chapter 30

Lissie

“The way he says that one word.”

He has a chair positioned in front of his bed, and on the mattress is my book and a pair of heels. I look back at him to find him smiling at me.

“I take it you want me to put the heels on?”

He walks to the bed, picks up the book, finds the chapter he wants to read, then sits in his chair and nods to the bed.

“I’ll read. You get undressed and on that bed in nothing but those heels.” He doesn’t wait for me to reply before he starts reading.

“His eyes… Somehow, they see straight through me, like he’s looking at a piece of me I’ve never seen before. His body hovers over me, and he brushes a piece of my hair off my face as he locks his gaze on mine.”

When he stops, I turn my head toward him. He’s sitting there with his brow raised, waiting for me to follow his instructions.

I grab the hem of my shirt and pull it off over my head, then shimmy my jeans down my legs until I’m in nothing but my panties. His gaze burns as it runs over me.
