Fuck, I couldn’t stop thinking about it, thinking about her and what it would be like to have unrestricted access to every luscious inch.

And from the way she worried her bottom lip between her teeth, she couldn’t either.

I took her bag out of the back, circling around to speak to the driver.

“If I’m not back out in ten minutes, feel free to head out,” I said, not entirely sure where I stood with her, but I was about to find out.

My driver nodded, not needing to ask another question since I kept him on retainer.

“You really don’t have to haul that all the way up here,” she said as we climbed her stairs until we reached her apartment.

“I want to,” I said as she unlocked her door and motioned me inside.

I dropped her bag in her bedroom, then lingered in her living room for a few seconds, waiting for her to give me any sort of sign. The last thing I wanted to do was lose her, but we’d already stepped over the line. I couldn’t help but wonder if she wanted to keep dancing across it.

“Thanks,” she finally said, something churning in her eyes. “It really was a great trip. One of my favorites.” She folded her arms around herself as she leaned against her couch, and I waited for her to say more, but she just bit that bottom lip, driving me wild with need.

“Mine too,” I said, hating that the words I needed to say were locked in my throat. Fuck, I’d always been able to talk to Brynn about anything before, regardless of stakes. But now everything was tilted. “Well, have a good night,” I finally said, heading straight for her door.

I wasn’t about to linger where I wasn’t wanted, and I felt like I’d encroached on her space enough.

“Wes,” she said once I’d made it to her door.

“Yeah?” I asked, hand stopping on the knob.

She parted her lips a couple times, but then shook her head. “Never mind, have a good night.”

I pressed my lips together and gave her a nod before shutting her door behind me. Her face kept flashing behind my eyes, the look taking me a few moments to puzzle out. I stopped halfway down the stairs before spinning around and climbing them again.

I knocked on her door, bracing my hands on either side of the frame. My heart pounded in my chest, pure adrenaline racing through my veins like I was about to step into a free fall from ten thousand feet up.

“You forget something?” she asked as she opened the door.

“One night,” I breathed the words.

“What?”

“Let’s give ourselves one night,” I clarified. “One night to work out whatever is happening between us and then tomorrow we can go back to normal. I know we have to go back to normal, Brynn. I know things can’t remain tense between us like this, but I can’t stop thinking about you.”

“What about Lena?” she asked. “I know you two aren’t exclusive, but I’m not too keen on the idea of sleeping with you tonight only to be calling her a car from your house next week.”

I flinched, guilt twisting up my insides. I’d considered things over between Lena and I the second she put the ultimatum on me, but the last thing I ever wanted to do was make Brynn feel like she was just someone on a weekly roster.

“There is nothing between Lena and me anymore,” I answered. “We’ll see each other at events, I can’t avoid that. But there is nothing intimate anymore.”

Brynn considered that, a small smile shaping her lips.

“One night,” she said, tilting her head. “As in one time?”

Fuck, my girl was negotiating? I went from semi-hard to full blown hard in the span of a blink. I pushed off the doorframe, stepping inside to shut and lock the door behind me.

“As many times as you can handle,” I said, cocking a brow at her and relishing the way she visibly swallowed. “And then it’ll be off our minds and we can go back to normal. Does that sound okay to you?”

Her tongue darted out to wet her lips before she nodded. “Those terms sound amenable.”

“I love it when you speak boardroom.” I grinned, reaching down to swipe an arm beneath her legs, hoisting her into my arms and cradling her against my chest. Her arms flew around my neck, her eyes never leaving mine as I walked us through her apartment and to her bedroom.

I gently sat her on the bed, the strangest combination of excitement and nerves twisting inside me. I hadn’t been nervous about bedding someone in years, but this was Brynn.

One night.

I had one night to be with her with no restraints. I certainly wouldn’t waste it being fucking nervous.

Leaning down, I captured her lips with my own, the two of us crashing together like someone had just cut the ties holding us back. She sighed between my lips, her hands running over my chest as I licked into her mouth. The most satisfying little whimper escaped her throat, so I did it again.
