Chapter 24

Jude

"Jesus, fuck, yeah, right there!" I shouted as Nikolai slammed into me again. Strong fingers bit into my hips to keep me from pushing my ass back like I wanted. Nikolai knew I liked it like that… having little to no control over my own pleasure. In the few days since we'd started having sex, he’d seemed to make it his mission in life to learn everything I liked.

I’d fully expected our need for one another to start to wane after the first few times, but it was just the opposite. We couldn't get enough of each other. It didn't matter where we were or who we were with. We were only focused on one another and as soon as it was just the two of us, we were all over each other. That wasn't to say that the only thing we had going on between us was sex.

Not even close.

Nikolai hadn’t left my side for more than the time it had taken for him to return to his temporary apartment to get some fresh clothing or to call reports in to his boss.

The morning after our first night together, I’d been sure that Nikolai would leave and things would return to their original awkwardness, but it had been nothing like that. Nikolai had woken me up in the sweetest of ways. I'd been the recipient of dozens of soft kisses all over my upper body and when I’d finally come fully awake, he had settled a tray with coffee, juice, and a giant omelet on my lap. There'd been a rose too. I had no clue where he'd even gotten the flower, but I hadn't really cared either. I'd stared at the tray like it was the loveliest gift I'd ever received.

Because that was exactly what it had been.

I'd been too choked up to do anything more than thank him and then we'd shared the omelet. The food had barely been settled in our bellies before we’d lost ourselves in one another again. Only when we were physically exhausted had we managed to stumble out of bed long enough for a shower and another bite to eat. Afterwards, we’d sacked out on the sofa in my den to watch several big-budget popcorn movies back to back.

By the end of the first movie, Nikolai had somehow ended up with his head in my lap as we’d watched the film. So instead of using one of the multiple fidget toys I kept around to keep my fingers busy, I’d played with his hair instead.

When nighttime had rolled around, Nikolai had nervously asked if he should go. My mind had been screaming at me to say yes, but it had been my heart that had responded by taking his hand and leading him to my bedroom. We’d made love again, slowly for once, and then had fallen asleep in each other's arms.

I’d awoken in the middle of the night and for some unknown reason hadn't been able to get back to sleep, so I’d used the time to try to put my apartment back to rights. Nikolai had found me in the kitchen busily cleaning the cabinets and replacing the sticky notes that helped me keep track of all the different tasks I need to complete each morning before I left for work and each night before I went to bed.

The embarrassment of being discovered had led to me trying to convince Nikolai to go back to bed, but he'd merely kissed me soundly and then had asked how he could help. There hadn't been an ounce of judgment or disgust in his voice. When I’d realized he wasn't going anywhere, I'd let him handle cleaning off all the fingerprint dust while I'd carefully written out my notes. Amazingly, Nikolai hadn't read any of them as I’d started to hang them back up. The show of respect had made my heart hurt and had affirmed what I'd already suspected.

That I was completely, unequivocally in love with him.

By the time the work week had rolled around, I’d found myself afraid of when Nikolai would actually leave. I was certain that once we reached the office things would go back to normal, and they had in some ways. He’d escorted me up to my suite as usual and had left me to do some work. But when he’d brought lunch in around noon, he’d secured the deadbolt on the door behind him and set the bag on the desk. Then he’d leaned across it and murmured, "Come with me."

While there were cameras in my office, none of them picked up sounds, so nothing Nikolai said to me could be overheard. I’d gotten up and followed him without hesitation. The urgency in his voice had made me wonder if something was wrong as he'd led me to the small bathroom attached to my office, but once he'd motioned me into the room and shut the door behind us, he’d been all over me.
