Charlotte made a face. “Most of it is on the floor. He won’t let me feed him.”
I laughed. “That happened to me too. Sometimes, Kayden thinks he’s a little adult who doesn’t need help.”
“Did you get what you wanted?” she asked in a poor attempt at finding out where I’d been.
I kept a straight face. “Yeah, I did.” I wasn’t going to tell her about the property just yet. I planned to tell her when I had the deed in my hand. “But I’m going to fly down to New York this evening.”
Her face fell and that pleased me. It was nice to know that she would miss me.
“Kayden will miss you,” she said.
I went to her and wrapped my hands around her waist. “Just Kayden?” I asked as I nibbled on her neck in a spot I knew to be extra sensitive.
She giggled. “Okay. I’ll miss you too. Happy?”
“Very happy. I’ll miss you too but I'll be back early on Friday, and then we can drive up to the lodge.”
“Kayden and I will go shopping for clothes tomorrow. We feel like going out to celebrate,” she said, turning around to face me. She draped her hands around my neck.
“I’ll leave you my credit card,” I said.
“No, you’ve done so much. I’m not exactly a pauper,” she said.
“I know.” I lowered my head to kiss her. “I just want to spoil the two of you to make up for the time I wasn’t around.”
“You already have.” Charlotte returned my kiss with fervor, prodding my lips open with her tongue.
My dick pulsed to life in my pants. I groaned. “I’m tempted to cancel my flight.”
She laughed. “Don’t. I know it must be important.”
“It is,” I said and reluctantly stepped back. I went to Kayden and kissed his forehead. “Next time we’ll all go together.”
“That would please your parents,” she said.
“They’re not the same people you knew,” I said. “They’ve seen how unhappy I’ve been without you. I can’t wait for everyone to meet Kayden. Time to freshen up.”
I took a quick shower and dressed. I didn’t bother carrying a bag as I would get fresh clothes from my apartment. When I was ready, I found Charlotte and Kayden in the living room driving toy cars round the carpet.
Charlotte stood up and gave me a suggestive hug, pressing her body against mine. Her nipples pressed against my chest emitting another groan from me. I cupped her ass and pressed her against my erect dick.
“I can’t wait for you to come back,” she whispered into my ear.
“I can’t wait to be back.”
We drew apart and I lifted Kayden from the floor. As if sensing that I was leaving he clung to me and refused to get down. My heart felt like it was splitting in two.
If I’d had any doubts over what I planned to do, they ended when my son wouldn’t remove his hands from around my neck. I was done with New York. I would fly back over the coming weeks to wrap things up, but my life there was finished.
I belonged here with Kayden and Charlotte. An opportunity for work would come up. Maybe I would open my own practice. There was no rush and I had a lot of time to decide what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. All I knew at that point was whatever I decided, it would be in Woodfield or the nearby towns.
Alex
I got home in time for dinner. Nina opened the front door and hugged me as if I’d been gone for months instead of weeks. To be honest I felt the same. So much had happened in such a short time. I’d found Charlotte and discovered that I was a dad.
I was in the process of buying a home for Chaz and Kayden. I had made up my mind to leave New York. My life, which had seemed so dull, was now full and the future excited me to no end. I was even contemplating reversing my vasectomy. Maybe Charlotte and I would try and add to the brood.
There was so much to be excited about.
“Welcome home,” Nina said. “You know where everyone is.”
“Everyone?”
“Yes, your sister and Mr. Richard are here,” Nina said.
A lightness came over my chest at the thought of seeing my nephews? “The kids are here too?”
“No, just the parents,” Nina said.
“Okay.”
“Hello stranger,” Richard said when I walked into the drawing room.
“Hey.”
“Don’t get overexcited to see your family after going MIA for three weeks,” my sister said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
“It’s nice to see you too Mary.” I kissed her cheek and shook Richard’s hand.
“Alex,” my mother said, as I kissed her cheek.
I shook my father’s hand and compared our greeting to mine and Kayden’s. I hoped that he would always throw his hands around me and give me a bear hug, even when he became an adult.
