“Smart,” I mutter.
“Bet you didn’t expect that from me,” Caleb says with a smug grin.
Blaine holds up the mask with two fingers and sniffs, then winces. “Ew, I’m not wearing this.”
“Blaine,” Caleb grits.
“It stinks!”
“He’s right, it does smell,” Milo says, making a face when he smells it again.
“See?” Blaine makes a face. “This is going to ruin my skin.”
“Do you have a better idea?” Caleb raises his brow.
Blaine rolls his eyes and sighs out loud. “Fine. But you owe me a new cream.”
“Fuck your fucking cream,” Nathan growls, putting on the mask. “How does it look?”
“Excuse you, darling,” Blaine mutters under his breath.
“Looks good to me,” Penelope says.
Dylan, Alistair, Lana, Milo, and Felix all put on their mask as well.
“This had better not take all fucking day,” Felix snarls. “Get in, kill people, get out.”
“Are we doing a kill count?” Nathan asks everyone, licking his lips.
“Most definitely,” Blaine responds.
Dylan’s eyes sparkle. “Count me in.” He shoves Felix in the side. “What about you? You game?”
“I don’t play, I win,” Felix growls back, making everyone grin.
“You wish,” Lana quips, getting them all hyped.
“Oh, it’s on,” Caleb says.
“Kill as many as you like, but don’t touch my father,” Kai growls. “I want to speak with him.”
“Why?” Alistair asks.
“Because he’s the reason we’re there in the first place,” I say. “Now let’s go get Ares.”
Ares
Another strike with the bullwhip has my knee caving in on me, and I slowly collapse but crawl up from the floor. I will stand. Each time he hits me, I come back up to my feet despite the searing pain.
THWACK!
Another one has me roaring out loud.
“Get on your knees, Ares, and maybe I will spare you.”
Blood rolls down my back in streams.
“Fuck you,” I hiss.
THWACK! THWACK! THWACK!
I fall to my knees and crawl right back up again, but the second my feet push up on the ground, I collapse onto the floor.
It’s too much.
My body can barely take it anymore.
I’ve already disassociated long ago, but now I’m on the brink of letting go. Of just drifting off into nothing and surrendering to my end. Even though it didn’t come by her hand, at least I know I did the right thing. If he truly intends to kill me, then I hope it’s a swift death because I can’t stand this pain much longer.
BANG!
I suck in a breath.
That sounded like a … gunshot.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Multiple.
The sound of screams beyond the door makes me blink rapidly.
I look up at the door and the guard standing in front of it, wondering what’s going on behind that door.
“What’s going on out there?” my father growls at him.
The guard pulls out his walkie-talkie and says, “Update.”
“Shots fired, shots fired, three down! We need backup.”
My eyes widen, and I lift my head.
“Who is it?” my father growls.
“Details!” the guard yells into his walkie-talkie.
“Group of fucking young kids, barely twenty, and there’s two, no three fucking girls too!”
My heart comes back to life, and I get back up from the floor, invigorated by the mere idea.
It’s them.
CALEB
BANG! BANG!
I’m shooting at the guards near the front of the building despite the fact that the rest have already gone inside. I just want every one of these motherfuckers to bleed to death for taking Ares, and I don’t care how long it takes. I’m going for the kill.
BANG!
A guard goes down and cries for his mommy as the bullet enters his knee, making him collapse, and I spit on him before I go inside too.
Everywhere I look, guards come pouring out while preparing an attack on all of us, while the casino’s guests flock to the emergency exits, screaming their lungs out.
I don’t know which one of these fuckers was involved with bringing Ares in, but I’ll make sure they’ll all regret it.
“Where do we go first?” Milo asks.
Kai points at a giant hallway in the back. “That way.”
“There’s a ton of guards,” Crystal says.
“So?” Blaine shrugs. “The more the merrier.”
“Where are your guns, then?” Felix asks him.
Blaine pulls out his umbrella, and Felix and Dylan begin to laugh until he pulls out the katana.
“What the f—really?” Felix says.
“Don’t laugh, he’ll skewer you,” Milo muses.
“I didn’t ask you a damn thing,” Felix growls at him.
“You want to touch it?” Blaine asks, raising a brow.
Felix’s face contorts. “No thanks.”
“It’ll be gentle with you,” Blaine adds.
“Ew, gross,” Nathan says.
One of the guards storms at us with his gun pointed right at us, but Milo takes him down with his nunchucks. “Nothing’s gross about killing. I’m fucking excited!”
“I’m not,” Alistair says, pulling out his knives with a smug smile. “But I’ll make it work.”
A giant casino floor filled with slot machines is in our way.
“You go that side. We’ll take this side,” Kai says, directing each group. “Caleb, Crystal, Lana, Nathan, Milo you’re with me. Blaine, Felix, Dylan, Penelope, Alistair, you go that way. Meet us at the entry to the hallway in the back.”
