After helping her up, he sat in her chair. That was a bit rude, but she guessed he was the guest.

She stepped toward the sofa, letting out a loud gasp as he wrapped an arm around her waist and deposited her onto his lap.

“Victor!”

“Where do you think you’re going?”

“To sit on the sofa.” She squirmed on his lap.

“Too far away.”

“I can’t eat breakfast while sitting on your lap.”

“Why is that?” His voice was a soft cajole, tempting her to spill her every thought.

“Um, well, I . . . you won’t be able to eat very easily.”

“I can eat just fine. And I like you close to me. Keeps you out of trouble.”

She gasped, turning to look at him. “I never get in trouble.”

“I’ve got a feeling your mouth is going to get you into plenty of trouble.”

“No, it won’t. Well, okay, maybe it will. Could it also get me out of trouble?” She waggled her eyebrows.

He gave her a small grin and shook his head. “Eat your bagel. Before you end up over my knee in an entirely different position.”

She sliced up both bagels and loaded them up after asking how he liked his. After eating one half, she held the other piece up for him. “Want this?”

“You eat it, baby.”

“I’m full.”

He gave her a skeptical look.

“Promise. I don’t eat a lot for breakfast.”

He polished off the rest of the food, then held his finger up, showing her a smidgen of cream cheese clinging to it. He ran his finger along her lower lip.

“Open.”

Oh, hell yes. She opened her mouth, and he slowly pushed his finger between her lips.

“Clean me up.”

She hummed as she sucked on his finger. Drawing his hand away, he wrapped his hands around her waist and turned her, so she straddled his lap. She gave a shocked gasp. She didn’t know if she’d ever get used to how easily he maneuvered her.

His big hands rested on her thighs, and she squirmed as she remembered the two orgasms he’d given her last night. She’d been kind of selfish, hadn’t she? She wondered if she could do something in return for him . . .

“What are you thinking about?”

“I was just thinking that last night I was pretty selfish. I got to come twice, and you didn’t get anything.” Guilt swirled in her stomach. Jacob would complain for weeks if she didn’t take care of him.

He wrapped his hand around the back of her neck. “Not keeping a tally here, baby. There’s no tit for tat. I got exactly what I wanted last night, got me?”

“I . . . yes. I guess so. Are you sure?”

“I’m sure. If I want something, I’ll tell you. Going down on you, bringing you to orgasm is something I’ll always want.”

“Really?”

“Really.” He kissed her forehead. “Thank you for letting me pleasure you.”

“Ah, well, it was a hardship, but I guess I can give you that . . . if it’s something you really need.”

His eyes warmed with amusement. “It is.”

“I wasn’t sure if you were really coming back this morning. I kind of thought last night might have been a dream.”

“Never been considered a dream. A nightmare, but not a dream.”

She scowled. “Who called you a nightmare? I want a name.”

“Oh, yeah? What you going to do, little bit?” he asked with clear amusement.

Folding her arms over her chest, she gave him her best stern look. “You don’t want to know. Plausible deniability and all that.”

He grinned. “You planning on killing someone, baby?”

“Anyone who speaks badly about you has to answer to me.” She thumped her chest with her fist. “And I can be damn scary when I want to be.”

“Sure you can. But I don’t need you to fight my battles.”

Maybe he didn’t think he did. But everyone needed someone to stick up for them, to be on their side no matter what. To be their ride or die.

“Thank you.” He tilted her head back with his finger under her chin then kissed her.

She melted into him, wrapping her arms around his neck. And it wasn’t until he drew back that her brain came back online.

Crap! She still hadn’t brushed her teeth. How did he make her forget everything? She squirmed on his lap, trying to get off.

“Where do you think you’re going?” he asked.

“To brush my teeth.”

To her shock, he lifted her off him without argument. “Go get ready then. We’ll get your car and bring it back here, then I’m taking you out.”

“You are? Where?”

“It’s a surprise.”

A surprise? When was the last time someone had surprised her? She couldn’t even remember.

“What do I need to bring? How do I dress?” And did she have enough makeup to cover the bruise on her cheek? At least the swelling had gone down and she could easily see out of her eye. She’d woken up with a bit of a headache, but she’d caved and taken some painkillers and it had disappeared.
