“Cariño, they’re not going to care, not your parents or mine, not Alejandro, certainly not Hendrix, Madden, and their child. Go sit down, get off your feet, let me deal with any of them if they say a fucking thing about something being out of place.” The only soft spot I have these days are for my wife, our children, and my parents. Fuck everyone else. Not that they piss me off anymore, well, except for my brother. That little fucker thought he could make it out like it was him who did all the work to get Cadence and me together. He came to reason after I broke his nose and started to hit him again; that’s when he was sincere in his apology, probably for the first time ever.

“You’re not answering the door. You’ll scare them away with one look.” She looks at me over her shoulder, a grin on her face.

“What if I promise to behave, will you sit down and rest then?” It probably won’t work. When my wife is in full-on nesting mode, nothing will deter her. Add in that our family is coming for a family barbecue, plus Hendrix is in town with her husband Madden.

“No, I have a few more things to do, and then I’ll sit down. If you want to really be a help, you could take little Miss Stella and change her diaper. I’m pretty sure she was grunting not two minutes ago.” I’m a sucker when it comes to Cadence, and even more for Stella. Both of them have me completely wrapped around their fingers.

“Will do. Between your parents and mine, I won’t have any time with Stella anyways. I better make this count before I’m chopped liver.” Cadence looks over her shoulder, giving me a smile, and I kiss her lips softly.

“You’ll never be chopped liver. She loves her papa too much. You’ll just have to learn to share,” she replies. I grumble. She’s right, but we both know I’ll never do that anyways.

“Come on, Stella girl. Mommy says you stink, and I have to share.” I move away from Cadence, hands going down as Stella’s little pudgy arms lift up and she babbles, “Pa, pa, pa.” It’s good enough for me.

“Thank you,” Cadence says as we make our way out of the kitchen and into the playroom we have set up off to the side. Our penthouse living days came to an end once Cadence gave me one of the greatest gifts a man could ever receive—telling me she was pregnant.

“Pa, pa, pa,” Stella repeats. She’s the spitting image of Cadence, a fact I know will have me losing my shit one day in the future.

“You’re welcome,” I reply. My lips graze her forehead right as she lifts her head up, giving me a sloppy, open-mouth kiss. I was once the man who thought money and work were the only things he ever needed. Boy, was I wrong. There are more precious matters than being the man I once was. Thankfully, I’m surrounded by two women who remind me of that daily.
