“You ass!” he scoffed. “That just gives me more ammunition to do something that irks you.”

I shrugged. “Like what?”

“Like…eating all your snacks.”

Okay, he had me there. My snacks were very important to me, especially my protein bars after practice.

I threw him a warning look. “I swear to God, if you—”

“Guess your smelly socks will be making it into the hamper,” he countered.

“Whatever,” I muttered, turning away from his gloating expression.

I couldn’t believe I’d let him get a rise out of me. But I’d admit I wasn’t on my game today.

I continued sorting laundry as he waited on his lunch.

“You should wear the blue shirt,” he said. “It brings out your eyes.”

My stomach did that tilting thing as I pulled the tee from the bag. “This one?”

“Uh-huh.” Emil removed the steaming mug from the microwave and blew on it. “It’s worked for you before, hasn’t it?”

I thought back to last year when he’d walked in on me and a cheerleader named Melanie as her hands had inched under my shirt. “Pretty sure it wasn’t the shirt. Just all me.”

“You cocky son of a bitch.” He laughed in disbelief, then sat at his desk to eat his soup. “You telling me you could wear a paper bag and still attract the ladies?”

“Definitely.” It was true that I wasn’t lacking in confidence, but a lot of it was just purposely acting like an ass.

He arched a brow. “I dare you to prove it.”

I pulled the drawstring on the bag. “I might have to if I can’t get a free washer.”

“Should we bet on this one?”

“What would the wager be?”

Emil carefully sipped the hot liquid in his cup. “That you can’t score in anything but that blue shirt.”

“How the hell would I prove that?”

He reached for my bag and rummaged around. “Here, wear this ugly thing and see what happens.”

I had no idea he had such strong opinions about my clothes.

I studied the brown Henley that had bleach stains near the hem from a laundry mishap. “Why is this shirt ugly?”

He huffed out a laugh. “Why do you look hurt?”

“I’m not. Besides, it’s not like you’re a fashion diva.”

“More than you! You can’t even match half the time.”

“I’ve gotten better! You’ve brought it up enough times.” I walked to Emil’s closet to find a particular button-down I found atrocious. “This one needs to go in the donation bin. But you should wear it tonight.”

“What’s wrong with a pink shirt with flamingos? I bought it for a luau party.”

“And haven’t worn it since.”

“Wow, I didn’t realize how much you paid attention.”

“Says the person who knew the exact shirt to pull out of my laundry.”

But damn, had I given myself away? I didn’t want Emil to think I scrutinized him that closely.

“How could I not notice? This room is all of five hundred square feet.”

He had a point. It’d felt stifling at first, but now I was used to it.

“Okay…” Emil said, “then how about this? I wear this awesome pink shirt, you wear the ugly brown one, and whoever comes away with a hookup tonight wins. Though I might have to branch out. It’s not like there’s tons of gay guys at Roosevelt.”

“You mean you’d pull up Grindr? That wouldn’t be fair.”

His eyes widened. “How do you know about Grindr?”

“Seriously? There are similar apps for straight dudes.”

“Okay, true. I thought maybe you’d checked it out before or something.” He snickered. “You’d certainly get an eyeful.”

“What do you mean? Dick pics?” I asked. “Show me.”

“What? No!”

I laughed nervously. “I’m just curious.”

“Fine.” He threw out his empty cup, then sat on his bed with his phone. He scrolled to the app while my heart hammered in my chest. What the hell was I doing? I didn’t want to see any guy’s junk.

I looked over his shoulder as the site opened—and gasped. “Wait a minute!” I grabbed the cell out of his hand. “Is that your profile pic?”

“Hey, give me back my phone!” He tried to wrestle it from me, but my arm was longer.

“I just wanna see.” I plopped down on the bed, brought the screen closer to my face, and studied his shirtless, provocative pose. “Whoa, look at you. You get more hookups like that?”

“Of course.”

Grappling for his phone again, it became a tussling match. I didn’t know who was laughing harder as Emil grew even more determined and ended up knocking me backward and straddling my waist.

His eyes narrowed as he looked down at me. “Now I’ve got you trapped.”

“It’s cute how you think I’m trapped.” I effortlessly shifted my knees back, making him sway. “One move, and you’re on the floor.”

“You wouldn’t dare!” he challenged, sinking his weight on top of me and hunkering down. I could feel my dick growing beneath his ass. Holy shit.

In a move that would make the wrestling gods proud, I lifted him higher, then flipped him to his back. He stared up at me, speechless.
