Holy fuck, was this really happening?

My gaze swung to Emil, who was still kneeling and looking expectantly up at the stands.

Without even realizing it, I was already moving, my legs carrying me down the stairs and toward the field. Emil stood as I got past the fence barrier and jogged toward him. Most of the band was either grinning or clapping as Emil met me halfway.

“I can’t believe you… Is this real?” I asked as a smile broke out on his face.

“I wanted to spell out be my boyfriend, but you can imagine how that would’ve complicated things,” he joked.

“Um, yeah.” I glanced over his shoulder to his bandmates, who had already broken formation and seemed to be waiting on what was next. “I mean, how did you even get all this together?”

“They were more than happy to help me make a fool of myself.” He bit his lip. “Did I? Make a fool of myself?”

He looked so shy and vulnerable right then that I felt the urge to encase him in Bubble Wrap and protect him. But first, I needed to get some things straight.

Or maybe not so straight.

“So you’re asking me to be your boyfriend?”

“Duh.” He winked. “Or date me, or whatever works for you so I can keep kissing you.”

“And only me?”

“There’s no one else I want to kiss.”

My heart practically burst from my chest and worshipped at his feet.

“Me neither. Guess this means I’m officially your boyfriend.” Before I could stop myself, I was lifting Emil and twirling him around, much like that day at the beginning of the semester. “I can’t believe I get to have you and touch you whenever I want.”

He snorted. “Well, there is such a thing as consent, which can be totally hot too. And right now, I would say fuck yes if you wanted to kiss me.”

I set him down and cupped his face to a cacophony of oohs and aahs from both sides of the fence.

When our mouths met, the rest of the world melted away as our tongues gently tangled and his hands wound around my waist. Even all the cheering and clapping from the field and stands couldn’t penetrate our perfect bubble.

“I missed this,” Emil said as he drew away. “Missed you.”

I gave him a pointed look. “You share a room with me.”

“You know what I mean.” He smirked. “I love hanging out and your dorky takes on stuff, but our cuddling and late-night talks are my favorite.”

“Mine too.” My stomach swooped, then immediately clenched. “But I thought I needed to get over you.”

“And I thought I needed to protect myself from getting hurt.”

I curled my hand against his nape. “I don’t want to hurt you.”

“Not on purpose, but I thought you might decide…” He drew a breath. “I looked up the definition of demiromantic, and it all sank in.”

I exhaled in relief that we’d finally found a middle ground. “You’re the only person I never wanted to kick out of bed.”

“Is that supposed to be a compliment?” he teased. “Though I’ll admit I love that I’m the first.”

My heart hammered in my chest, filling it with so much joy that I didn’t know how to contain it. So I did the only thing that came to mind. I lifted Emil over my shoulder and headed toward the fence as he squealed.

“Okay, neanderthal, what are you doing?”

“I’m taking you to the dorm so we can kiss and cuddle without an audience.”

“I thought you liked an audience.”

“Not when it comes to you.” I playfully swatted his ass. “I mostly like us in our own little quiet space.”

“Are you trying to make me swoon?”

I smirked. “Guess you bring it out of me.”

“Other things are gonna be brought out too, like puke, when all the blood rushes to my head.” He thumped my back. “You can at least let me walk on my own.”

“How about a compromise?” I stopped and shifted him. “You put your legs around my waist, and I still get to hold you close while I carry you.”

“Deal.”

His ankles circled my midsection, which only led to more kissing before I started moving again. We got puzzled looks as we headed to the dorm and up the stairs to our room, but I didn’t care.

As soon as we shut the door behind us, our lips and hands were in a frenzy, kissing in between pulling off each other’s clothes. Finally, a naked Emil tugged me down on his bed, and damn, feeling him skin to skin like that was amazing.

We kissed and ground our dicks together until we were both leaking precome. But it didn’t seem like enough. I wanted more, to get even closer to him. To crawl inside his skin and heart and head. Before I woke up from this amazing dream.

“Bones?” Emil’s cheeks were flushed as I looked down at him. “It’s okay if it’s too soon, but I want…”
