I never want this moment to end.

I FALL ASLEEP AGAIN, unable to keep my eyes open. Being tucked into Wolfe’s arms, where it’s warm and safe, is enough to lull me into a deep, perfect sleep. I stay there until morning, unmoving, but when I wake, I see he’s gone. A flash of disappointment rushes through me, and for a moment, I wonder if it was all a dream.

The ache between my legs tells me it wasn’t.

He was here and everything I felt was real.

Getting out of bed, my body aches. I haven’t eaten properly in days, and I certainly haven’t had enough water. Everything inside me hurts and I’m desperate for another shower to ease my aching muscles. Taking a towel and some clothes, I head to the shower in Wolfe’s room, hoping it’s okay to use it.

He isn’t there when I get inside, so I go in, undressing and standing under the hot water for long, long minutes. Closing my eyes, I tip my head back and just let my body relax. I really don’t want to get out, but I have to face the day ahead. There are so many unanswered questions about what happened, and what we need to do now.

Nia can’t stay missing forever. Eventually, she has to let the world know she is okay. I only hope that we can keep her here, away from the grips of her family, so she can have the life she deserves. Nia is a kind soul, deep and beautiful. I couldn’t live with myself if she was sent back to a place where they treated her so poorly.

Getting out of the shower, I dress and head out to the main area where everyone is already standing around, no doubt waiting to find out what we do next. Shuffling through the crowd, I smile at Kael and Zane as I pass. They offer me a grin in return, which eases something inside me just a little.

Wolfe is standing beside Nia and Talon, the three of them talking about something.

When he notices me, his eyes zero in, causing me to stop walking and catch my breath. The look on his face is so primal, so hungry, I’m unable to focus on anything else, including putting one foot in front of the other. I lick my lips, unable to help it, and force my body to start moving again.

By the time I reach them, my body is thrumming with need and my heart is going a million miles a minute. God, Wolfe does something to me, and after last night, that has only intensified. As I hold his gaze, I can’t help but think about all the wicked things he could be doing to me right now.

Focus, Mera.

“Mera,” Nia steps forward, wrapping her arms around me. “How did you sleep?”

It’s nice to know that out of this horrible situation, I have found a friend.

That’s something I’m truly grateful for.

I glance at Wolfe again, before offering a small cheeky smile. “I slept amazingly, thank you. How are you?”

Smiling, Nia steps back and rubs her arms with her hands. “I’m okay. We were just discussing the next step. I was telling Wolfe and Talon about my family...”

It warms me that she trusts them.

She deserves that.

“What is the plan?” I ask, trying to keep my eyes off Wolfe because if I continue staring at him, I might just melt into a puddle.

“We’re going to make sure everyone knows Nia is safe and well, and that you were the one who rescued her. For everyone’s sake, the world needs to know what happened. We have agreed to let her stay here because her family is going to throw down when they find out she won’t go home,” Wolfe explains.

God, why are his eyes on my lips.

I shiver.

“Are you sure it’s a good idea to tell everyone what happened?” I question.

Wolfe nods. “You deserve your name to be cleared, and Caleb needs to be held accountable for his shit.”

“He’ll go to prison...”

Wolfe’s eyes flash. “If they catch him, he will. Gave him a good head start.”

“You helped him?”

I don’t ask it in an offended kind of way, but more in awe.

After everything, Wolfe still cares enough about the man he once called brother, to let him have a chance at freedom.

“Caleb knows if he ever shows his face here again, I’ll kill him myself. We have a deal.”

“He should be lucky to have someone like you,” I say, offering a truly genuine smile.

“He’s lucky he’s got a heartbeat,” Talon grunts. “If I had my way, that fucker would be six feet under.”

Oh my.

Nia’s eyes widen, and her cheeks grow pink.

Oh, I think Nia has a little crush on Talon.

I don’t blame her. If that man saved me, I would probably feel the same.

“What if he comes back?” Nia asks, nervously. “He has made it clear he wants revenge, so who is to say he won’t come up with a new plan.”
