The right thing to do would be to simply call Samantha and request that another agent be brought in on the job. There hadn’t been another threat on his life so one could safely assume that it had been nothing more than a crazed fan hoping to get Micah’s attention. I could walk away and never look back. Micah would go on with his life and I’d move on with mine.

That, of course, was one possibility. It would never be the path I’d take. When I’d crossed the line tonight—when I’d touched him…when I’d marked him as my own…I’d known there was no turning back. I’d fight for him. I’d die for him.

Fuck, I’d fought so damn hard to dislike him—to imagine he was nothing more than a pretty face with a fat pocketbook and an even fatter ego. All that shit, of course, had been so damn wrong. Micah was as beautiful on the inside as he was on the outside. Was he naughty enough to keep me on my toes? Hell-the-fuck, yeah. Was that what I’d searched most of my life for? Better believe it.

As sleep crept into my body, I held Micah tightly and tried to come up with one good excuse to walk away. There had to be one—I didn’t deserve someone as innocent and pure as Micah. He was an angel and I was Lucifer. Just before sleep overtook me, I admitted that while I might be Lucifer, it didn’t mean I couldn’t crave the touch of my own angel.

I woke up to two totally different sensations. First of all, my cell phone was ringing in the most annoyingly consistent manner. Second, and much more important, my angel was beneath the covers, licking the balls and dick of Lucifer. For someone with what I believed had zero experience, Micah was a fucking fast learner. Or, with pouty lips like his, he’d been created to suck cock. Whatever it was, I took a full minute to enjoy the privilege of Micah’s lips wrapped around my dick. I really wanted to give it two minutes, but my cell started ringing again, warning me that whoever was on the other end definitely intended to talk with me.

There were only two people in the world that insistent—Ari or Samantha. Since Ari was cruising, I suspected it was Samantha calling to scream at me about something. I reached beneath the blankets and hooked my hands beneath Micah’s armpits. “That’s fucking amazing, beautiful, but I think it’s best we slow down a bit. Rumor has it that up until last night, you were as straight as an arrow.” I pulled him upward until the front of his body rested against mine. His lips were plump, red, and swollen and mere inches away from mine. “Let’s give you some time to think about things.” I was a grown-ass man and suddenly felt like I was about to have the first panic attack of my life. Micah was in my bed…or I was in Micah’s bed. My tongue had been deep in his I’m-not-gay-beautiful-ass. His never-tasted-cock-lips had just been wrapped around my dick.

Calm down. Think. Think. Think. The phone! My salvation!

I started to reach for it, but Micah was much faster. He grabbed it, swiped his finger across the face, and said, “Leave us alone, godmother. Landon is taking very good care of me. There’s no reason for you to keep calling and calling. You do your job and we’ll do ours. I love you, Sammie. Tell Mom I love her.” With that, he disconnected the call and tossed my phone onto the carpeted floor, well out of my reach.

His blue eyes met mine and he said, “They are so damn overprotective sometimes.” His eyebrows arched up and then down a few times before he added, “I think they are afraid for my virtue. Do they have anything to worry about, Landon?” His eyelashes, incredibly long for a man, batted playfully. “Please tell me they do.”

Damn…who was this kid? I paused, thinking. He was exactly the same person he’d been when I’d taken on the job, but I’d placed him on a pedestal and saw only what I wanted to see. Sure, he’d been as straight as an arrow when it came to the bedroom, as far as everything I’d read, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t have been bi-curious or something. Whatever it was, he’d made a 360-degree turnaround in his sex life and I was damn thankful for it.

A more professional man might have worried about his job and stepped away from the beauty in my arms, but I wasn’t that man. For far too many years, my needs had taken a backseat to my job. Ari had always come first—just as he should have, but he was a grown man now and, if I wasn’t mistaken, in the arms of another protector.
