The sheriff shrugged. “Truth, brother. Also, it’s hard to be careful because Zane’s dick is unnaturally large. How is it not supposed to get in the way?”

“What the hell is going on?” Now the weirdness was getting to be a bit much.

“You’re confused. When Hale told you he wanted you to meet his partner, he meant it would be a date. Between all three of you,” Van said as though it was perfectly normal.

“That’s exactly what I said,” Hale argued.

It was so not what he’d said.

“It’s what she heard,” Van pointed out. “It’s what I should have said.”

“What?” Was she being played? Or maybe the town wasn’t as nice as it seemed. Maybe this was their way to get her to leave.

A big, gorgeous dark-haired man walked up behind Callie, grinning the sheriff’s way. “Did the new girl figure out Hale’s looking for a threesome? Dummies hadn’t mentioned they were both crazy about the same woman.”

“I knew that five minutes ago, Zane,” the sheriff said with a snort.

Normally a guy looking for a threesome would mean he wanted two women to service him.

She was pretty sure that wasn’t what was happening here in Bliss.

Callie turned her face up and let the dude—who apparently had a very large unavoidable dick—kiss her right before the sheriff leaned over and did the same.

That was the moment she caught sight of the three people she’d seen earlier.

The threesome she’d seen earlier.

Like the Harpers were a threesome.

So much suddenly made sense.

“Hey, I did want you to meet my partner,” Hale was saying.

“That would be me.” Van held up a hand and looked so adorable in a sexy sweet way. “I didn’t mention him because I thought it would be a little much, but I totally planned on sneaking him in there.”

“They were fighting over which woman to date,” Zane said with a big grin. “Except it was the same woman. You.”

“So three menus?” Callie asked. “Would you like a table or a booth?”

“We’re at a table right now, but maybe a booth would be cozier,” Hale offered. He looked to Van. “If you’re done being an asshole.”

“I’m totally done being an asshole.” Van gave her a smile, the kind almost guaranteed to get any woman’s heart racing. “Especially since—when you think about it—I won the battle. We’re seeing the woman I wanted to see.”

Hale’s eyes rolled. “We’re seeing the woman I wanted to see. Also, I’m pretty sure I saw her first.”

“But she thought I was straight,” Van argued.

“Or you could get something to go,” Callie offered. “Sometimes it’s nice to be alone.”

It might be when a woman had two gorgeous men who wanted her. Elisa hadn’t experienced that.

“The booth will be fine.”

Maybe there was still some joy to be chased right here in Bliss.

Chapter Four

“Is it a cult?” Elisa asked.

She looked awfully pretty as she glanced around the crowded dining room. There were plenty of perfectly normal tourists hanging out, but there were definitely more than a few of the regulars, and by regulars he meant people who slept three to a bed. Elisa was studying Trio as though trying to figure the place out.

Hale could promise her Bliss was extremely easy. Live and let live and love and battle aliens. Still, he could see where she would be concerned. “I don’t think so. There is a church, but the pastor isn’t actually in a threesome. Unless you count God. He talks a lot about keeping God close, so technically, maybe.”

Van’s jaw had actually dropped open, and that was how he knew he was a dumbass who should stop talking. “No. It is not a cult.”

“He should know. He’s been involved in at least two.” Hale couldn’t seem to do what he needed to do. This was the time when he should fade into the background and let Van handle the whole charm offensive part of the seduction. It was what they did. The actual sex was his time to shine.

He didn’t want that with her.

“Really?” Van shook his head. “That is where you go? First, I did not belong to the People of Heaven. I was five. Mom liked their produce, and we were stuck in that town until we managed to fix the RV. And I only went to that weird one where they believed humans were rapidly evolving into cloud creatures because there was a cute girl there.”

“I was only saying you would know what a cult looked like.” He snapped his fingers as a thought hit his brain. “Hey, Hope Glen was actually involved in a cult.” Or maybe that wasn’t a helpful fact. “Do you think that means she’s more or less likely to join another one? I mean when you think about it, there are a lot of meetings in this town and we have all kinds of community events. And there’s some kind of secret room out at the Talbot estate that a lot of the throuples of this town visit.”
