“We’ll see it all, babe,” I promised with a wink, and he thanked me with a quick kiss. Once his lips left mine, Viggo made a quick glance around the diner. I knew it wasn’t from embarrassment, though; it was from fear or protection.

In his time, men could be severely punished for showing affection to another man. But thankfully, times had changed. Sure, I’d had a random jack-off give me the finger or shout an angry slur at me, but it wasn’t often. I was curious and hopeful to see what the future would bring.

Our food soon arrived and we dug in. Viggo said the roast beef was slightly different from what he ate in the past, but it was still delicious. I shared my burger with him, and he loved the savory meat and cheese combination. But I saved the best for last.

“Did you have syrup back then?” I asked as I smothered my waffles in the sweet liquid. I wasn’t a history scholar by any means, and I knew Viggo didn’t mind my questions.

“Yes, but it looked a little different.”

I stabbed a large, dripping bite and held it up to his lips. He bit it off of my fork and hummed as he chewed. “That’s much sweeter than I remember. I can almost feel my teeth curling.”

I snorted; nothing was too sweet for me. “In a good way?”

The corner of his lip twitched into a smile. “In the best way.”

“Nice! I knew I’d make a sugar fiend out of you. Here, have some more.”

We traded plates, fed each other, and chowed down until every bite of our food was gone. I sighed as I patted my too-full stomach and asked, “What did you think?”

“Everything was wonderful. You have excellent taste.”

I thanked him with a kiss, smiling when he didn’t examine the room afterwards. “Now that we’re full, are you ready for the next surprise?”

“I’m ready.”

Chapter Seven

Viggo

“What is this place?” I asked when Skyler stopped his car, parking in a lot filled with many other vehicles. We were outside city limits, but not by much.

Ahead of us was a large wooden structure which appeared to be topped with a small road. It contained a hill and tight turns. On the far end, it stretched to three stories which were twisted in a corkscrew shape.

“This is Wild Woody,” he replied, though his words didn't answer my curiosity.

“What does a Wild Woody do?”

Skyler snorted. “Sorry; that sounded dirty.” I didn't understand the joke, but I still smiled at the adorable sound he made. “Come on; let's go check it out.”

He led me across the lot and up a short flight of stairs. Just as we stopped on a platform labeled ‘Observation deck’, three loud beeps cut through the air, followed by a roaring noise. It was similar to the sound Skyler's car made when he turned the key, only much louder.

The cause became apparent when a dozen small vehicles whipped around the corner. They were different from Skyler’s car; they had no doors or tops, and each only held one person. They buzzed by the observation deck before rushing towards the corkscrew.

“Those are go karts,” my beloved explained inside my mind. I would have easily heard him, even over the noise of the engines, but I enjoyed the intimacy of our mental conversations. They were special moments for only the two of us.

“Thank you for bringing me to watch them. They are quite exciting.” My fascination with his vehicle must have been obvious to him, and he brought me here to witness another type. Skyler was thoughtful and caring. I loved the way the drivers whipped around one another, obviously embroiled in a race as they battled for the front spot.

“We're going to do more than watch them; we're going to drive them.”

My eyes widened as I peeled my gaze from the karts and turned it to Skyler. His beautiful, pearly grin spread from ear to ear. “We are? Both of us?” My pulse raced with excitement. I was intrigued by all the vehicles I'd seen, but these small, quick karts captured my interest the most. I was planning on asking Skyler for a driving lesson one day, but I never expected it so soon.

He nodded, his pretty blue hair flopping against his forehead. “Do you like your surprise?”

“I love it. Though I am a little worried about the operation. Can you show me how to work them?”

“It's super easy. The karts have two pedals you press with your feet. The one on the right makes it go, and the left one makes it stop. And you turn the steering wheel whichever direction you want to drive. That's it!”

I nodded my understanding. The operation seemed simple enough, and I would try my best to make him proud. “What are the drivers racing for?”
