“We do have this.” I take another sip. “I’m being rude. Would you like some?”

She opens her mouth to say no, but shuts it. She must realize the trap she set—if she wants to join the club to have easy access to friends and alcohol, then surely she’d accept a social drink.

I can’t imagine she wants to drink around me, but I can’t resist pushing her boundaries.

I walk to the table, pour her a glass, and hand it over. She cradles it then takes a hesitant sip. She makes a face and sputters.

I laugh, unable to help myself.

“I don’t really drink much, honestly,” she admits, putting the whiskey down. She picks up the lukewarm tea and sips, trying to clear the alcohol from her mouth.

“Then why join a house that throws big, raging parties? What makes you think you’d belong here?” Aside from your sister.

“Dom and Nathan were nice to me on the ferry and I just thought—” Her cheeks turn red. She’s blushing with embarrassment and I can tell she’s on the verge of running away. Clearly, this whole thing was impulsive, but I want to drive her to the natural conclusion. “Look, I just want to join, okay? I’m not leaving here without you at least taking me seriously.”

I move over to the couch and sit down beside her. She stiffens, but doesn’t move away. I wonder how far I can take this and put a hand on her thigh. She shivers like my touch is hell, and I nearly laugh out loud. Her fear is absurd but her discomfort is delightful, and I have a sudden, horrible idea.

“I take you very seriously, Kaye,” I say softly, soothingly. “How badly do you want this? Coming out to Calico House in the middle of the night during a shipment takes some serious courage. How far will you go to join this club?” My hand moves up her thigh, slowly, so slowly, and I want her to think about me cupping her bare pussy, about my fingers sliding inside of her, about my teeth on her throat.

She stares at me in surprise and I look right back, still smiling, hand still close to the warm crease between her legs. I stop before I go too far, but I can tell I’ve already crossed a line and she’s doing everything in her power not to scream and run away.

“I’ll do what I have to do,” she whispers and my cock’s half stiff, the blood throbbing through my ears. Why am I reacting like this? Kaye’s attractive, her voice is sexy, I like her figure, I like that she’s petite—but I’ve been with plenty of attractive girls on this fucking island. Why her, why right now?

Why this girl, when I hated her fucking sister so much?

“I’m sure you will,” I say and pull my hand back. She’s dangerous and toying with her is a mistake. I throw back my drink and stand, moving away. She lets out a soft whimper of relief and that only makes my cock stiff with excitement. I want to hear that whimper as I push her to her limits and finally break her in a way I’ve never broken a woman before.

Thoughts of her sister swirl in my mind. I don’t want to think about Lucky, not right now—not when I’m staring at her sister with pure madness and lust in my heart, but I can’t help it. Lucy was hell, Lucy a nightmare. Lucy nearly took everything from me.

And now Lucy’s sister thinks she can waltz in here, into my fucking house, and demand a spot in my student society.

She’s lucky I was already considering bringing her in.

Friends close. Enemies closer.

“Tomorrow night,” I say, looking away from her. “Come at midnight. Come alone. Don’t tell anyone where you’re going.”

“Really? You’re letting me join?”

“I’m letting you try to join.” I glance back at her, shivering with anticipation. “Nothing is easy on Saint Parras, Kaye. If you want to join the Calico Club, you’d better be prepared to go as far as I take you.”

“I’ll do whatever I have to do.” She stands abruptly, shin knocking against the coffee table, making the spoons rattle. I imagine she’s picturing some light hazing, some ritual involving alcohol and fake blood or whatever frat bullshit she remembers from the movies. “Thank you for giving me this chance.” She growls the words, that fucking sexy rasp driving me insane.

“Don’t thank me yet. You’re not going to like what you’ll have to endure.”

She nods once, determination in her eyes, and walks to the door. She slides it open, but before she can leave, I call her name.

“Tell nobody and come alone. Do you understand? I have long arms and wide ears at this school. I hear everything and touch everyone.”

“I understand.”

She disappears. I hesitate, staring down at the empty glass in my hand, before walking out after her.
