If she wanted to continue carrying this baby, then all Blaze and I could do was continue supporting her the best that we could.

“Alright. Everything looks good here. Let’s get you to the ultrasound room so we can take a look at your little one.”

Montana slid off the bed. Surprising the fuck out of me, she reached out and latched her hand around mine, clasping it like I was the only thing keeping her from drowning. I tightened my fingers around hers, letting her know I was there.

I had her.

I wasn’t fucking going anywhere.

The ultrasound technician instructed Montana to pull up her shirt and pull down her leggings once Montana was laying on the cot. She then tucked a sheet made of some kind of paper material in the top of Montana’s leggings.

She didn’t try making conversation with Montana, which I was thankful for. She seemed to read the room well.

Montana kept her eyes away from the screen. I watched, but the only thing I felt was worry in my chest for Montana and how she was handling today.

But nothing could have prepared either of us for the sound of the heartbeat when it whooshed through the room.

Montana started crying, loud sobs tearing themselves from her throat. I swung my eyes to her, my soul ripping apart. Agony painted her pretty face. I grasped her face in my hands, pressing my lips to hers. “It’s okay, baby girl. Breathe. Just breathe,” I coaxed. But nothing was working. She was having a full-blown panic attack, her heart hammering in her chest. I could feel her heart hammering against my arm.

She sat up, clutching at her shirt, her entire face red. She couldn’t catch her breath, and fuck, it was terrifying the shit out of me.

“Montana, baby, look at me,” I snapped, gripping her chin. I gripped the back of her neck with my other hand. Gently, I shook her, forcing her to look at me. “I’m here. I need you to breathe. It’s okay.”

She wrapped her arms around my neck, and I held her to me, gripping a fistful of her hair in my hand. I didn’t care about the gel that was getting on my shirt. I just needed her to calm down. “Just breathe, baby. Breathe. It’s going to be okay.”

“I want to go home,” she blubbered.

I looked at the technician. “I’ll go check with her doctor,” she whispered, quickly heading for the door.

I gently rocked Montana side to side. “Just keep breathing for me, baby,” I whispered. “You’re doing so good.”

She tightened her grip on me, a whimper falling from her lips. I pressed my lips to her temple, holding them there. Dr. Trish came into the room. “I’ll call if there’s anything abnormal,” she told me. “Go ahead and check her out. I’ll have them send the bill to Blaze.”

I nodded, and gripping Montana beneath her thighs, I lifted her up, carrying her out to the parking lot.

I needed to get her to Blaze. As much as I wanted to help her, Blaze had a way with her that I didn’t. I was too soft when it came to her, but he had no issues being firm.

My phone vibrated on my desk. I heaved a tired sigh and snatched it up, surprised to see Jonah’s name on the screen. I quickly input my thumbprint to read what he’d sent.

Montana had a panic attack when she heard the heartbeat. Bout three minutes from your office. -Jonah

I quickly got out of my chair, shoving my phone into my pocket. Montana might be mouthy and stubborn as hell, and she might only have anxiety attacks that came out in fits of rage, but she’d never panicked like this.

Emma, my PA, looked up from her computer screen when I stepped out of my office. “Clear my schedule,” I ordered.

She nodded without hesitation, not even seeming the slightest bit surprised. Since I’d gotten tangled up with Montana, Emma had become accustomed to my schedule suddenly changing. “Yes, sir.”

I strode for the elevator. “Also, order food and some kind of calming tea. I don’t care what food.”

“Yes, sir.”

The elevator doors opened, and I stepped inside, quickly jamming the button for the parking garage. A couple of weeks ago, I’d added Jonah to the list of people who could get in without paying, and I’d also made sure he had his own parking stall. Sure enough, when I stepped out of the elevator, he was pulling his car into his assigned parking space.

I wasted no time in moving to the passenger door. Montana looked exhausted. Her hair was a mess around her face, and her cheeks were red and streaked with tears.

“Come here, sweetheart,” I murmured, reaching for her.

She sat up, letting me grab her in my arms. As soon as I had a hold of her, she wrapped herself around me, her fingers gripping the back of my shirt. Jonah closed the car door before leading the way to the elevator so we could go up to my office.
