“That’s true,” Seline murmured. “You wouldn’t have Bonded me to you and you wouldn’t be trying to get me pregnant with your baby right now.”

Nox frowned.

“But I’m not—we are just talking.”

Seline gave him a naughty smile.

“That was a not so subtle hint for you to breed me again, Master,” she purred. “Those hormones they gave me in the Upper Disk were no joke—I’m seriously going to need you to keep it up all night.”

“Mmmm…it’s a good thing Kindred males are multi-orgasmic,” Nox rumbled. He began to move in her again, making Seline moan. “I’ll be happy to breed you all night, sweetheart,” he told her. “And to Claim you as my female forever.”

As Seline gave herself to the pleasure of being bred and Bonded all over again by the man she loved, she realized that everything had changed. Nox was no longer just her Protector—he was her lover and her mate—the man she would be with the rest of her life. He would be the father of her children and they would grow old together.

And all because the two of them had gotten Trapped in an alternate universe and had found love there.

EPILOGUE

NOX

“I’m very glad to see the two of you—and to know that you are all right, Seline,” Commander Sylvan leaned across his desk, eyeing Nox and Seline with a relieved expression. “I tried and tried to contact you last night to inform you of the results of your blood tests,” he went on. “But you were nowhere to be found.”

Nox saw his new mate blush and knew that she was probably too embarrassed to admit what had happened.

“Seline was with me last night, Commander Sylvan,” he said. “We are Bonded now.”

“Ah…I see.” Sylvan nodded. “Well, that makes sense considering what I found in the blood tests.”

“Let me guess—a whole lot of fertility hormones,” Seline said, speaking up at last.

“Well…yes. How did you know?” Commander Sylvan gave her a quizzical look.

“We know because we remembered what happened to us—how we got the Far Box,” Seline told him eagerly. “And let me tell you—it was a lot!”

“We were not gone for only two standard minutes,” Nox explained. “We were gone for several days and had a lot of difficulty getting home to our own universe.”

“You went to a whole different universe? Tell me more.” Sylvan steepled his long fingers on his desk and looked at them expectantly.

“Well, it all started when I said something about how awful it would be if the Kindred had never come to Earth in the first place to save us from the Scourge just as we were flying through the fold in space…” Seline began.

“…and then we were finally able to get back home after the female Commander Sylvan agreed to fold space for us and we had the whole Far Box to bring us back,” she finished, some time later.

Nox noted that she had left out many of the sexual parts of their adventures in the alternate universe, which was good, since those parts were definitely private. But it was still a fine tale, even without the sex.

Commander Sylvan certainly seemed fascinated by it.

“So in this alternate universe, the Kindred are 95% female?” he asked. “And they had never fought the Scourge to protect the Earth?”

“No—but they were headed for Earth when we left them,” Nox assured him.

“I think there were a lot of very lonely ladies aboard that version of the Mother Ship,” Seline remarked. “Though I’m not sure how the men of Earth will take to being called as ‘brides.’” She laughed.

“It would be interesting to see what might happen if the Kindred of that universe set up a Draft to call mates in the same way the Kindred of this universe have,” Nox said thoughtfully. “Though since that version of Earth has been ravaged by the Scourge, they may be glad enough to get away from it and onto the Mother Ship.”

“I would love to observe what happens,” Commander Sylvan said. “We could look through the PORTAL—which is a multiverse viewing device created by human scientist here aboard the Mother Ship—but you cannot control which universe it shows you. So I don’t know if we would ever be able to view the one the two of you spent time in.”

“I suppose if you were that curious, you could simply use the Far Box to travel to the universe you wished to observe,” Nox pointed out.

Commander Sylvan frowned.

“I don’t think that’s a very good idea. You never can tell what effect you’ll have on the multiverse when you go universe hopping. The two of you seem to have gotten off lucky, as the humans would say—you’re none the worse for wear and your adventures drew you together so that you knew you wanted to Bond. But who knows what might happen if we just started going to any universe we wanted?”
