One of her perfectly shaped eyebrows arched. “Are you threatening an officer of the law?”

“No.” He walked toward her, loving the way her eyes flared as he drew near.

She put a hand on his chest. “You’re too close, Tracker.”

Damn, she smelled good as fuck—fruity, sweet, delicious. He settled his hands on his hips, flexing his fingers in her softness.

“I know your fuckstick of a partner screwed it all up, but thank you.”

Her surprised gaze met his. “For what?”

“The way you handled Lock. You’re too damn good to be a cop.”

Her gaze softened. “He’s suffering. He doesn’t deserve an interrogation. And I know you guys have nothing to do with selling drugs. Hell, I’m pretty sure the entire department knows it.”

Now it was his turn to raise an eyebrow. “And how do you know that?” Her closeness affected him in ways no other woman ever had. For fuck’s sake, she was covered from head to toe in a boxy police uniform, yet he was hard as a damn spike and seconds away from grinding his cock all over her.

She swallowed. “Tracker, you need to take your hands off me.”

He smirked. “Why? You like it a little too much?” He sure did.

Her eyes narrowed, and he could feel her temperature rise as her annoyance spiked. Wrong thing to say. “Because I didn’t give you permission to touch me, and I will never give you permission to touch me again.”

One step forward, two steps back.

“You’re wrong,” he whispered against her ear. “Not only will you give me permission, but you’ll beg for my hands on you.”

What are you doing? Fuck, he needed to let her go before he did something really stupid, like let her feel how hard he was.

“Not a chance in hell. Now let me go before I cuff you.”

He inhaled, then bit his tongue to keep from licking her neck. Christ, he wanted a taste. “Don’t come back here smelling like a fucking dessert unless you’re fully prepared to be devoured.” And then he gave in, nipping her neck before letting her go with a step back.

Her narrowed eyes and clenched fists did nothing to hide the slight tremor his teeth elicited.

“And, yes, Officer Baker, that was a threat.”

CHAPTER ELEVEN

JO COULDN’T BE happier to be out of Lithia, away from her partner, and focusing her attention on something other than her ill-advised obsession with a certain tattooed biker. The second her LT asked for a volunteer to help their sister department find a missing child a few towns away, her hand was in the air, and she practically screamed, “Pick me, pick me!”

Thankfully, her LT agreed this would be a valuable training opportunity for her, so she got in her car and made the forty-minute trip. A quick briefing caught her up to speed on the physical description of the three-year-old who wandered away from his home while the babysitter Snapchatted with her boyfriend. The twenty-year-old nanny sobbed in the driveway as the child’s mother screamed at her, and two uniformed officers tried to calm the distraught mom. Jo had little sympathy for the sitter who’d clearly neglected her charge, but she was glad as hell she didn’t have to deal with either woman.

“Jo, right?” a voice asked from over her shoulder.

Jo turned to find a petite, short-haired blonde in her thirties, wearing plain clothes and a welcoming smile. “Yes, I’m Jo.”

The woman held her hand out. “Trisha. I’m a detective out of St. Petersburg. My parents live next door to the missing kiddo, so I came right over to help. I think we were paired up together for the search.”

She took Trisha’s proffered hand and shook. The other woman had a firm, confident grip. “Nice to meet you. I’m based out of Lithia.”

“Ooh,” Trisha said with a wince. Then she schooled her face. “Sorry. I shouldn’t react like that. I just know that can be a rough station for a woman. Real boy’s club out there.”

Damn, the validation felt good. “Yes, it sure is. I’ve only been there a few months, and it’s… interesting.”

“I can imagine. I was in a department like that once. Almost made me quit being a cop.”

Yeah. Jo would be lying if she didn’t admit the thought crossed her mind as well. At least once a day lately.

“Anyway, I don’t mean to crap all over the job.” Trish held up a piece of paper. “Here’s a map of the area we’re supposed to search.”

A loud woof had Jo turning her attention from the paper and to the gorgeous yellow lab trotting along next to its owner, a man walking with his back to her. A lean but strong back that came with a pair of arms decorated with tattoos she’d recognize anywhere.

“Oh shit,” she whispered.

“Something wrong?” Trish asked.

Tracker. Of course, Tracker was there. The man volunteered with Search and Rescue. Why the hell hadn’t she thought of that when she threw herself at this assignment? One look at him and her stomach was fluttering while her heart pounded and her skin prickled with the reminder of the pleasure his hands elicited.
