She swore, as always, she could hear her mother sobbing over Jo’s failures.

“Maybe I do,” he said, still touching her. “That a problem?”

She shook her head. “Not for me. I got what I came for, so no complaints.” A little reminder in case he was drifting toward wanting a formal date. She threw in a wink for good measure.

Thankfully, he didn’t seem bothered at all. Someday she’d probably want a man in her life for more than a few hours of fun, but today wasn’t that day. And Fin wasn’t that man. She’d played that game, lost badly, and had the emotional scars to prove it.

Her family of uber macho cops and demure southern belles would flip their shit if she brought a guy like Fin home. Might not be fair to judge the book by its cover, but he looked more like the characters her family collared than the ones they married. No, her secret desire for bad boys didn’t extend beyond fucking. One day she’d get bored and find a nice man to bring home to her family and settle down with. They’d have a few kids, and she’d be able to reminisce on the sexy men of her past while baking cookies for the PTA.

Maybe.

Just the thought of it had her squirming.

Fin got up, much less concerned with his nudity. Naked and mouth-watering, he pulled a pair of basketball shorts and a tee out of an old dresser. She frowned as he grabbed his shoes.

“You don’t need to walk me back to my car,” she said as she stood, pulling her shorts up. “Cop, remember?”

His chuckle was warm and genuine. “I’m glad you think I’m that much of a gentleman, but I need to pick up my daughter and head home. I just use this place to crash sometimes if I’m working late. Or fucking late.” He winked.

He could have gone on to announce he was a billionaire, and she’d have missed the declaration. Her brain stuck on one incredibly jarring word. “Daughter?” Oh, God, had he left a baby with a sitter so he could go out and fuck someone for half the night? She might not be a kid person, but she didn’t hate them.

“Yeah. She’s with a friend. Sweetest girl you’ll ever meet. Cute as hell too.” He ran a hand over his mohawk.

“Oh.” She buttoned up her shorts and slipped her feet into her sandals. A sick feeling twisted in her stomach. “Uh… how old is she?”

Smirking, he cocked his head. “Twenty-eight.”

“Uh.” She blinked. Twenty-eight? Fin couldn’t be older than mid-thirties. So, what the hell? “Oh, that’s nice.”

Time to go.

Fin cracked up. He laughed so long she wished she’d had her taser so she could zap his ass. “What the hell is so funny?” she asked, barely resisting the urge to stomp her foot and pout.

“You are.” He walked over to her and then smoothed her hair back. “Not a fan of children?”

“I just don’t have a lot of experience with them.”

He snorted. “That makes two of us. My girl is a yellow lab, though, so you can breathe easy.”

“A dog?” She glared at him. The ass. He’d played her good. “You’re talking about your dog?”

“Yep. My girl. Four in human years, twenty-eight in dog years.”

You’d think growing up with four older brothers would make her impervious to pranks, but he’d gotten her. She laughed as relief hit. “Wow. I’m going now. Thanks for the orgasms.”

“Any time.” He held the door open for her, and together they walked down the outdoor steps to the back of the standalone tattoo shop. “You know where to find me if you want a repeat. I practically live here.”

Yeah, that wasn’t gonna happen, but she nodded. “Sounds good.”

“Or if you’re in the market for some ink, I can give you the sexy-as-fuck discount.”

That had her laughing. “Can I combine it with that had-a-drink-together discount you offered earlier?”

“Why the hell not.”

Along with being hot, skilled in bed, and a smooth talker, the guy was fun. If she hadn’t already slept with him, she’d be trying to hook him as a friend. But alas, she didn’t befriend her bed partners. Too messy.

But she had been thinking about getting a tattoo. Something bright and bold she could never hide under a sparkly gown or bathing suit.

When they reached the ground level, he walked straight toward a large black and chrome motorcycle. After a wink and a loud, showy rev of his engine, he was off to pick up his daughter, and she was on her way back to her car.

Of course, he rode a motorcycle. What had she expected from the sexy bad boy who worked a hundred steps from her favorite bar?

CHAPTER THREE

JO GROANED AS she grabbed the cruiser’s radio. “Again?” she asked her partner of exactly one month. Less if she counted the two weeks of training she’d done with her superior officer first.
