Colt thought about Gabrielle. “Do you think he knows who he hit?”

“I don’t know, son, but this isn’t good. We need to get you and Rosalie out of here.”

“He’s going to come to the clubhouse,” Colt said.

“No, we know he doesn’t have the manpower. Not anymore.”

“Unless he tries to take it back.” They had moved it to a secure location. An abandoned warehouse on a farm they owned. Very remote, no one knew about it. It was a safe haven they used for some of the brothers if needed. The property couldn’t be traced back to the club. Warden had been cautious in the purchase of it.

“He won’t. He doesn’t know where it is.”

“Dad, that man has tried to kill his daughter twice in less than a week. I don’t think you realize how ruthless that son of a bitch is.” Colt gripped the back of his neck. In his mind, the sound of Rosalie’s screams rang in his head. It was a sound he would never forget.

She was hurting, and he didn’t know what to fucking do to protect her.

“Colt, we need to get you and Rosalie to a safe place, and the hospital isn’t it.”

Rosalie stepped out of the door. She looked so miserable. “I’m not leaving Petal.”

“You need to understand the threat to you,” Warden said.

“Threat?” Rosalie began to chuckle. “You think I don’t realize the threat to me?” She looked down at her body. There was dried blood on her hands. “I’ve got my mom’s blood on my hands. She’s dead. Gone.” She looked straight ahead as if she was seeing it replayed in her mind. Rosalie looked up at him, tears in her eyes. “You promised me.”

“I know,” Colt said.

She slapped his chest. “You fucking promised to take care of her. You promised me and you lied. She’s dead.” Her voice was high and Colt knew she was drawing attention to them.

He pulled her in close and slammed his lips down on hers. Moving her into the hospital room, he knew his father followed him. Rosalie broke the kiss, jerking out of his arms, and then drawing her hand back and slapping him hard. He accepted the slap.

“You lied. He … he…”

“I’m going to take care of it.”

“He has to die,” she said. “You have to kill him like you did Al.”

Kim moved to her side, touching her, and Rosalie shrugged her shoulders.

“You said she’d be safe. You all lied.” She moved toward Petal, and he watched as she slowly crawled onto the bed, hugging her best friend, being cautious as she did so.

Rosalie was in too much pain. His face stung from the slap, but he knew what was going on here. She had begged him to keep her mom safe, and he’d failed, again. Colt ran a hand down his face and turned to his parents. They were not happy.

“I’m going to stay here,” Colt said. “I know you want us to move to a safe house, but nothing is safe right now. She needs to know her friend is safe.”

“What I need is for Daemon to be dead,” Rosalie said. “That is what I need. He needs to know what he has done and he needs to pay the price.”

Daemon thrust the blade into the man’s neck, jerked it back out, and then slammed it back inside. He didn’t care that his men watched him.

He gave one order. One specific order. Colt was to die and Rosalie was meant to be injured. Instead, Colt lives and Rosalie was fine, but Gabrielle … Gabrielle. His Gabby. His everything. She was fucking dead.

“Dad,” Bug said.

The man was dead, but he continued to slam the blade in and out, driving it into the man he’d hired to kill Colt. Twice now he’d gone for that fucker and twice he’d failed. The first time, it had taken out his daughter, and the second, Gabby. His Gabby—the woman he intended to win back. He knew she’d been afraid of him, but his intention was to show her that he cared, that he loved her and his daughter.

Rosalie had multiple uses. She would get him the information he needed from the Satan’s Death Riders MC, and then bring Gabby back to him. When it came to that woman, he’d been impatient, and he fucked up every single way. He had a plan, though. He’d seen the way Gabby and Rosalie were together, and he knew if he helped to save their daughter, if he pulled her away and showed that he loved them all, it would draw Gabby to him.

She was dead. Gone. His woman was dead. The man responsible was dead, but Daemon needed blood. Turning to Bug, he held the knife in his hand. Bug had advised him to take out Colt. He took a step toward his son.
