“Yes. I figured that was who Daemon would go for next.”

“He’s…”

“A bastard, asshole, fucker, the list goes on and on.”

“Yeah, all of those things. I can’t believe he’s my dad.”

“He’s a real piece of work.”

“You must really hate me,” Rosalie said. “You can’t stand him and yet, I’m here.”

“I don’t hate you, Rosalie. You’re nothing like him. You wouldn’t hurt people to keep another in line.”

“You’re only just figuring that out?”

“I always knew it, but he killed my sister. I’ll always hate him, but I think he did it on purpose.”

“Taking your sister from you?”

“No, not that, but this marriage. He did it on purpose so I’d be miserable. He couldn’t kill me. Tried and failed all the time, and so he gives me his only daughter. Let’s face it, I haven’t been very nice to you, have I?” Colt asked.

“No, that’s true. We haven’t been good for each other at all.”

“We’ve made each other miserable. I heard what you said to Petal.”

“I’ve said a lot of things to Petal.”

“About having sex,” Colt said.

“Oh.”

Her cheeks were starting to grow red.

He smiled. “The blush is very good on you.”

“Shut up.”

“It’s not like that,” Colt said.

“What?”

“Sex, it doesn’t have to be painful. It’s good. I’m normally great at it. I’ve had no complaints.”

“Telling your wife that you’ve had complaints isn’t exactly a good way to start.” She smiled at him.

“You know what I mean. It can be good,” Colt said. “I didn’t know and didn’t think for a second you were a virgin.”

“It’s fine.”

“You’re hot,” Colt said.

Rosalie coughed, pressing a hand to her chest. “What?”

“You’re a hot woman. Sexy as fuck, and I figured other men would have been with you. They’d be knocking at your door.”

She burst out laughing. “It sounds bad when you say it like that, but I’m going to attempt to see that as a compliment.”

“It is a compliment, but now I’m hearing it and yeah, it sounds bad.”

Rosalie sighed. “There were a couple of guys who were interested. I went on a date here and there, but they just wanted sex and I wasn’t ready.”

“Were you even ready on our wedding night?” he asked.

“No, I wasn’t. I was … scared. It hurt, a lot. It always hurts. That’s why I use the lubrication. I read that it can help.”

“You’re not supposed to need it.”

She chuckled. “This has been one crazy start to a marriage from hell, right?”

“Not a marriage from hell, but it has been up there as one of those experiences I’m not going to forget anytime soon.”

Rosalie laughed.

He watched her eat. She looked good. More than good. She was fine.

“You don’t have to worry. I’m not going to fall apart at the seams. It was just a moment.”

“It was a scary moment.”

“But it’s all fine now.”

He fucking hoped so.

Rosalie hadn’t wanted her friend to come to the Evil Fuckers MC clubhouse. She’d been able to get Gabrielle out of coming, and she knew her mother was so happy about that. The truth was, she didn’t even want to come here at all. Being in her father’s clubhouse meant she was closer to him, more at risk of being near him.

At the moment, she didn’t feel close to a panic attack. Petal had insisted on coming to help, just in case. She refused to back down from a fight.

“If someone even tries something, I’ve got my knife, and I will fucking use it.”

So, her best friend was packing while at a honeymoon send-off party. Petal had agreed to leave before she did, though, so at least she didn’t need to worry about that.

Kim was there, as were several of the club women. Colt wasn’t too far either. The place was heaving with bodies. She had to get out of there.

Stepping out of the main clubhouse into the night, Rosalie tilted her head back and took some deep breaths. She had to clear her head, do something to get her shit together. If she fell apart now in front of her father, he’d see her as weak. There was no time for her to be weak.

“Well, well, well, I didn’t think I’d see you here.”

Rosalie frowned and turned toward the masculine voice. She didn’t recognize him. She glanced behind her and then to the side, wondering if he was talking to someone else, but no, he was looking at her. He stepped toward the light, and she still didn’t recognize him.

“You don’t know who I am, do you?”

Rosalie shook her head. Why had she stepped outside?

“The name’s Bug,” he said, holding his hand out.

She paused at the name and looked at his hand. “Bug?”

“Yeah.”

“Still don’t ring any bells? Fine. We both share a father.”

“Oh, so we’re brother and sister?” she asked.

“Yes.”

“Okay.”

“Dad said you wouldn’t recognize me.”

“Recognize me, I don’t understand,” Rosalie said.

“Because you’re related,” Colt said, coming to her, wrapping his arms around her shoulders. “He looks like Daemon, so why not assume he’s related, right?”
