“Okay, that wasn’t weird at all.”

“I don’t like this,” Colt said. He glanced down at his watch to see that it was fast approaching the time he needed to be home. “I’m heading out.”

Ox gave him a slap on the back. All the guys seemed to know what he did on Friday nights. It might explain why they gave him a wide berth the next day. He was never in a great mood after screwing his wife.

He got to the door, not bothering to talk to his father as Warden already knew what he intended to do. On the way out, he was stopped.

“I don’t see your wife with you,” Daemon said.

He’d just made it out of the main door and stepped into fresh air. His bike was up ahead. Colt took a deep breath and then turned to look at the man that had been forced onto him. His father-in-law. Every time he looked at him, all he saw was Nancy, dying in his arms. He hated this son of a bitch, and when they could finally kill him and rid the world of Daemon, he’d be a happy man. Until then, Warden had told him to play along.

“I don’t see any other wife.”

“Ah, but you see, Kim, and any of the other women, are not my daughter. I was hoping to see the two of you.”

“Cut the concerned father routine,” Colt said. “I don’t buy it.”

Daemon held his hands out. “What are you not buying?”

“If you cared about your daughter, you wouldn’t have given her to us.”

“Ah, but you see, you’re assuming I did this purposefully. I have no other daughter. I’ve only got a son. To make peace, to stop the violence and the threats, I had to do whatever it took. Giving you Rosalie was not a hard decision.”

“Your daughter hates you.”

“My daughter doesn’t know the truth. She has only gotten one side of the story. She doesn’t know that her mother attempted to abort her and even give her up. If it wasn’t for me, I don’t know what would have happened to Rosalie.”

Colt stared at him. Two men in one day, telling him how much they cared about Rosalie. Colt wasn’t believing it. Not a single word.

He rubbed the back of his head and then shrugged. “You expect me to believe Gabrielle is capable of that?”

“You don’t know Gabrielle the way I do. She can be quite the vindictive woman.”

Colt might have believed him, if he’d not brought up Gabrielle as a person. That woman was terrified around bikers, most men in fact. She only seemed comfortable around women.

“I’ve got an appointment.”

“To see my daughter, I know. This arrangement we made, it wasn’t for the two of you to only produce a baby. I expected you to bring her into your life. Rosalie has always been on the outside of everything. Never allowed to participate. I thought with you and your club, she’d have a chance.”

Colt had heard enough. They were up to something, he just didn’t know what.

Without saying another word, he made his way toward his bike, straddling the machine. He glanced back toward the main clubhouse, only to see that Daemon had already left. What the fuck were they up to? Something didn’t sit well with him. From the moment this union was considered, he’d been questioning the entire reason why they were allowing it to go through.

Running fingers through his hair, he grabbed hold of the handles of his bike, turned the ignition over, and listened to his baby purr. His bike was the one constant in his life. Gifted to him as a birthday present when he turned eighteen. She’d been in his possession for twelve years. He had plenty of money to buy himself something new, but he just couldn’t bring himself to do it. This bike had seen a lot and saved him multiple times. There was no way he was getting rid of it.

Taking off out of the Evil Fuckers MC club grounds, he got to the open road and then just floored it, traveling fast, feeling the need to break ground. The wind in his face helped to clear his thoughts.

Daemon and the Evil Fuckers MC were up to something. What? He had no idea. This treaty had come out of the blue and he never expected his own father to agree to it. Not to mention the forced marriage. Colt never wanted to get married and even if he did, it would have been with a woman he adored, not someone he hated.

Rosalie was beautiful. There was no denying that. He had men who worked for the club constantly watching her. She worked hard, had no enemies. Her boss, Al, was a little grabby, and he’d already gone to pay the bastard a visit and told him to keep his hands to himself. Rosalie and Petal were now under the protection of the club. If Al touched them, he would bring down the wrath of the club.
