“So, where do we start?”

“Everything needs watering. And I guess I should pack up my stuff.” She frowned. “I really don’t think that guy is going to show up here again.”

“It’s not worth the risk,” I said, though I secretly agreed with her. After the guys paid him a visit, that lawyer was long gone. Still, I wanted her to move in with Mac. This was as good a reason as any to get them moving. They were both a little shy, in my opinion.

I wanted them to be happy.

“So, show us what to do.”

Two hours later and I was happily wrist-deep in dirt, wearing cute garden gloves, of course, while my husband lugged mulch and turned over compost. There were a couple of packed boxes stacked just outside the front door and a little rolling green-patterned suitcase that looked like it was from the seventies. I squinted at it.

It was definitely from the seventies.

Mac walked into the yard and disappeared into the house. I exchanged a smirk with Donnie. I intended to give them a few minutes alone, but Whiskey and Becky pulled up at exactly that moment. I shook my head.

Mac was going to have to work to get alone time with his lady.

We all exchanged hugs and kisses, Becky laughing when I accidentally got some dirt on her. I noticed that Whiskey hung back from banging on the door. He had always been one of the more considerate guys of the group, and less prone to trash talking and pranks than the rest of the guys.

“I think we got most of it done, but they will be glad to have help getting ready for the moving truck tomorrow.”

Donnie pulled me aside and helped take the garden gloves off.

“Let’s go home.” He pressed a quick kiss to my cheek before sliding his mouth over to my ear to whisper, “I need to clean you up. Very, very thoroughly.”

I laughed, slapping his shoulder. But I was already tingling in anticipation. My man knew how to get me going. Waiting to be alone with him was half the fun.

And I was definitely ‘anticipating’ what would happen when we got home.

“Mom has the kids for another hour and a half.”

“You’d better drive fast,” I said as I clicked in my seat belt. He grinned at me and turned on the car.

“Yes, ma’am.”

Chapter 30

Mac

“This is the spare bedroom. You can use it as an office,” I said, giving Suzanna the unofficial tour. I was nervous. Jumpy, even.

The guys were coming with the boxes in about twenty minutes. We’d spent the night at the cottage, packing and talking. I’d learned a lot about my lady last night.

A little about her first husband too.

He was the first, but I intended to be the last. I was definitely marrying her. I’d decided.

She hadn’t said much, but it seemed like they’d been more friends than lovers. I wanted more. I wanted the whole package with her. I felt like we were already there, with an easy camaraderie when we weren’t tangling up the sheets.

I was already deeply in love with her.

I hadn’t said it out loud though.

I knew without a doubt that I wanted a ring on her finger.

But first things first. Get her settled here. Figure out what to do with her business.

Then I would take that next step I’d been thinking about since the whole scumbag situation had complicated things.

I wanted her under my roof. But not this roof. I wanted her safe and secure in a place I built with my own two hands.

And I knew just where to put it.

Someplace safe and secure with backup nearby and miles and miles of woods to keep my lady and her plants safe.

Devil’s Lake.

I grinned, thinking of my plan to move her greenhouse and her granny’s house both to the lake. It wasn’t easy, but I knew guys with a crew that moved houses. Small ones were easier, though the glass greenhouse would have to be disassembled, most likely. It was a lot of work but it was worth it. She could have her offices and everything right near our house. I’d always know were she was and I’d always know she was safe.

Hell, I’d even build her a farm stand by the road if she wanted to sell her produce, though I sort of imagined we would have enough mouths to feed to take care of that. Oh, yeah, I was thinking ahead.

I wanted lots and lots of babies with my woman. As soon as I could convince her that she was, in fact, my woman.

I knew Suzanna liked me. The problem was, I wasn’t sure about love. She would love me, eventually. I was sure of it. But I wanted her on lockdown now.

I wanted it fucking yesterday.

I was pretty sure she was feeling something more than lust, but she was stubborn. She knew her own mind. I was doing my best to pace myself.
