He understood the assignment and fucked me hard.

“There you go, baby,” he rasped.

I loved his voice.

I loved even more how he was just as into this as I was.

How he was so hard, and I could feel him so deep.

“Yes,” I breathed, throwing my head back so hard it knocked against the car.

He growled, his hand going up under my ass to angle my body how he wanted it.

When he had me exactly where he wanted me, he pulled almost all the way out of me, then slammed back in.

He fucked me hard—much harder than earlier. Our bodies slapped together in the darkness, and I could do nothing but take it when he fucked me fast.

“There you go, sweetheart, come for me,” he urged.

I bit my lip so hard I tasted blood as I held the scream inside as I fell apart around him.

He cursed, the harsh epithet leaving his lips against my ear as he lost control.

My ass screeched across the surface of the car, but neither one of us paid it any mind as he came.

“Fuck, baby,” he followed me up the hood, one knee beside my hip, and the other foot still on the ground. “That’s just how I want you.”

And then he was coming as well.

He was filling me full for the second time tonight, and I once again tried to tell myself that him coming inside me was the worst idea in the world.

When he was finished, and we were both resting on the hood of my car, him still inside me, his head resting on the glass of the windshield, he said, “I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”

That’s what every woman wanted to hear moments after she had her mind blown.

I pushed him up and off of me, my eyes narrowing. “Why did you come here if you didn’t want that to happen?”

His eyes were harsh as he placed two fingers on my pussy and shoved them deep inside me.

I gasped, hating the way I wanted to ride those fingers.

He pushed those two fingers in and out of my pussy for a few short seconds before he pulled them out and offered them to my lips.

I sucked both fingers into my mouth and cleaned them.

He pulled them free, then caught my chin with his hand, those wet fingers pressing against my chin as he said, “Stay out of trouble, Athena.”

I scoffed.

Me? Get in trouble?

Yeah, right.

“I’ll try, Gable,” I said as I resituated my top.

He straddled his bike, turning his gaze to me, as he said, “Find me if you need me. But not at the bar, please.”

I bit my lip and nodded.

I would probably stay away.

Probably.

Bashing him isn’t enough. I need to talk to his mom to explain, in detail, what he did.

—Athena’s secret thoughts

ATHENA

The tickets on my counter mocked me.

I had two tickets to Okinawa, Japan.

I also had a trip for two planned.

Four years ago, when I’d booked this trip, it’d been with the understanding that I would have Gavrel with me.

Years ago, when I’d told my brother I wanted to visit where I was born, he’d immediately started planning out our trip.

Our first stop would be Okinawa, where I was born. Then we’d hit up all the other historic landmarks in a two-week vacation, not including travel time.

I’d forgotten all about this trip after he’d died, and hadn’t remembered until a few days ago when the reminder to check into my flight arrived from my travel planner, as well as her letting me know that she charged my card for the tickets.

In four days, I would be going to Japan.

And I wanted to ask Gable to go with me.

We didn’t have a relationship.

Sure, we had some awesome chemistry.

However, I wasn’t fooling myself into thinking we had more.

He hadn’t called once since we’d spent that night together.

Nor had he made any indication that he wanted anything more to do with me.

But, without giving myself time to overthink it, I dressed in jeans, a t-shirt, and my Nike Air Maxes—that may or may not have been child sized—and headed out to my car.

It was just after six in the evening, and it took me twenty-two minutes to drive back to the bar.

After talking to Shasha the next day after going to the bar, he’d urged me not to go back, that he didn’t want to mess with a police investigation.

I’d agreed, because I didn’t want to mess with it either, and stayed out of it.

But that was before the tickets popped up in my email…

Truthfully, it would make more sense to ask Garrett.

He was pretty friendly with me.

At work—my job was a dispatcher for DPD—I’d really gotten to know him, as well as the rest of his family.

Though one Carter still remained elusive to me.

Gable was the only one out of the entire family that I didn’t see.
