He was knowledge. His powers could read the answers to life’s great mysteries, and yet he could not accomplish what he truly set out for. The knowledge he truly wanted. The woman he truly wanted.

And worse, Lorcan now had his hands in all of this. Sure, Druids and wisps had been allies for millennia until the wisps had all died out, but that wasn’t the reason that Lorcan wanted to keep Kierse close.

His mind drifted back to that moment when Lorcan had called her “a chuisle mo chroí.”

He couldn’t even get the word out when Kierse had asked. He’d seen fiery fucking red at the thought. Because of course, of course, after all was said and done, he would have to contend with this as well.

The pulse of his heart indeed.

He remained there, his chest heaving, trying to rein in the anger that still coursed through him. He only moved when he felt the vibration of his phone in his pocket.

With a sigh, he pushed back from the table and answered, “Hello?”

“Graves,” a gruff voice said on the other line.

He stilled. That was a voice he hadn’t heard in a long, long time. “Laz?”

“I have a lead if you’re still interested.”

“That depends entirely on what you found.”

Laz snorted. “You know what I went looking for.”

A smile stretched across Graves’s face as he straightened. “You found the cauldron.”

“Bingo.”

“Tell me everything.”

The more Laz spoke, the more Graves realized one very important thing—he was going to need a very clever thief for this job.
