“I’m sorry no, I left before the auction.”

“What? Why? But that was the highlight of the entire evening. You must call her and apologize.”

“What for mom? I didn’t tell her to enter and there’s no guarantee that I would’ve bid on her or anyone else.” And I’m glad you didn’t tell me before that she was going to be there or I never would’ve gone, and I wouldn’t have met the most perfect woman.

“Well, you don’t have to be so mean about it. The poor girl must’ve felt like such a fool.” She went off on one of her guilt trips, which usually would’ve made me cave if even just a little, but this time it had no effect on me whatsoever.

“By the way mom, there’s someone I’d like you to meet.” Again, words that I did not expect to leave my lips, but I didn’t feel panicked or regretful. Just lighter somehow. It felt like the right move.

“Oh? Who is she? Is she from one of the families? Anyone I know?” By families she meant the handful of extremely wealthy friends in her rolodex.

“No mom, I met this one all on my own and she’s terrific. I think you’re going to like her, I can’t wait for you to meet her.” As I said it I realized how true it was. It had only been one weekend, but a man like me doesn’t get where I am by second guessing myself. I’ve never been very good at it anyway.

“Well, would you like us to come into the city, or should we have you here for dinner sometime this week or this coming weekend?”

“I’d love to bring her out to the house, so she could see where I grew up.”

“Sounds wonderful dear, I can’t wait to meet your new friend.” That had gone much easier than I’d expected but I wasn’t about to complain. I hung up with her and finished getting dressed, feeling much better than anyone ought to who was facing my workload.

When I wasn’t buried in figures and stocks for the rest of the day, my mind kept straying to her and what she was doing. I missed her already and found myself by lunchtime counting down the hours. She’d promised to pack a bag when she went home so she could come back with me this evening.

I was amazed at how much I’d changed in the short space of time since we’d met. I wasn’t worried about her invading my space or getting the wrong idea. All that mattered was that I wanted her with me.

That evening when I picked her up and watched Reggie place her bags in the trunk of the limo I felt a growing excitement in my chest.

That night for the first time we were able to sit through a movie before I had her spread out on the rug in the movie room with her legs up on my shoulders.

By midweek it was as if we’d lived together for a while. She wasn’t intrusive, in fact I was the one dragging her around the house with me. If I had to work, I made her sit in my office and read a book or play a game on her phone. When it was bath time we shared either the tub or the shower.

In short I never let her out of my sight once the doors closed behind us when we reached the penthouse in the evenings. And I didn’t feel stifled even once.

“I want to take you to my childhood home this weekend.” We were in the tub covered in bubbles because my woman is a girly girl. She was resting with her back to my chest and I was pouring water from my hands over her bountiful tits. Fuck, I love those things.

“Really?” She seemed surprised by the offer and I realized that although a lot has been changing for me, I hadn’t exactly shared any of what I was feeling with her.

When she turned around in my arms, splashing water everywhere, the look in her eyes was one of childlike innocence. “Yes really.” That smile, I think I’d give anything for that smile.

The weekend came around way too soon, and not soon enough. On the one hand I was ecstatic that he wanted me to see where he grew up. On the other I was about to meet his parents.

I vacillated between excitement and dread all week until I was making myself crazy. And then out of nowhere I got a call from my dad. He was going to be in town for a few days next week.

As much as I wanted to see him, this visit couldn’t help but remind me that my time was running out, dammit. But no matter how I worried throughout the day when I wasn’t with Jonas, as soon as I slid into the coolness of the backseat of his limo, the day’s woes just drifted away.
