My eyes narrow.

“Excuse you. It’s for all of us,” Hector says with enough sass, I can’t help but smile. “Now go. Leave us alone.”

“Yeah, Jason. Go back over to the bar. We don’t want you over here.”

Jason leers down at Miguel. “Well, I don’t want you in my country. I’ll leave if you leave. How about that?”

“Fuck off, man,” I grunt. “Seriously. You need to step back.”

“Oh yeah? Do I, Tully?”

I really hate being goaded.

“Yeah, you do,” I say, making a fist in my lap. “Or I’ll have to pick up your tiny body and toss it through a window.”

“Ha. Do it, Jake,” Hector says.

“Let’s see it, fucker. Try and touch me.”

“You think I won’t?” I stand then, sick of this shit. “Go away before I break you in half. This is your last warning.”

“Hey, Jake.”

My stomach drops out when I hear that voice, and all I can think is fuckfuckfuck. Not now.

I look over at Felix where he’s standing a few feet away, just behind Hector and close to Jason, too close, and the moment I do, the smile falls from his face.

“What’s wrong?” he asks.

“Who the fuck are you?” Jason frowns, looking between Felix and myself.

“Felix, get over here,” I say.

He doesn’t listen.

“I’m Felix. Who are you?”

“Aw. He’s cute, Jake,” Miguel says, panic instantly flooding his face. “Oh shit. I mean, he’s here! Felix is here, Jake. Did you see?” He laughs nervously.

My lips press tightly together.

I can’t get mad at Miguel right now. I know that was an accident.

And besides, I think Jason might be dumb enough for that cover to actually work.

But Felix isn’t dumb.

He can’t look at me fast enough, his eyes widening in wonder and actual hope, and there’s so much emotion on his face, I want to take him out of here right now and just stare at him. I want to enjoy the way he’s looking at me and tell him yes to everything he’s thinking, because I’m sure his imagination is running with that little compliment and realizing why Miguel would say something like that.

I’ve been talking about him.

I’ve been talking about him and us. The possibility.

And honestly, I don’t care about Felix knowing this truth. It doesn’t really matter now. I just wish he wasn’t the only person figuring it out.

Jason isn’t as dumb as he looks.

“Cute?”

The inflection dies out in seconds, and then Jason becomes smart for the first time in his life and figures something out on his own without any assistance from others, and he’s laughing.

At me. At Felix.

He sets his empty glass on the table and rubs his hands together.

“Of course. God, I fucking knew it. I knew there was something else about you I didn’t like, Tully. Is this your boyfriend? Does he fuck you when you get home from work? Do you choke on his cock? Shit, you probably love it, don’t you, you fucking fairy.”

I step closer. “You need to shut your fucking mouth.”

“Actually, I’m single.” Felix grins at Jason, like he’s flattered, and all I can do is watch him, because what. “So, me and you could totally get out of here if you want.”

My mouth drops open.

Fuck. Oh, fuck.

“What,” Jason grits out. He immediately looks sick.

“Yeah. You got these lips and I’m just like, damn. You’d probably give a nice blow job. I’ve got half a chub just thinking about it.” Felix palms himself, and I nearly choke on my tongue. “Come on. Let me fuck your face a little. You’ll like it.”

Jason steps closer and fists Felix’s shirt, but I swear, he only gets to hold on to him for half a second because I’m there, between them, getting up in Jason’s face and grabbing him by the throat.

I watch Jason panic and feel Felix at my back and see Miguel and Hector both stand out of the corner of my eye as the crowd around us becomes aware of what I’m doing.

And even though there are too many eyes on me, too many witnesses for what I’m about to do, I can’t let this go and walk away.

He touched Felix. I’m not thinking right now.

Actually, that’s not entirely true.

I’m thinking about not permanently fucking up my hand, so instead of swinging on Jason, I go with another option.

I grip him by the shirt with both hands, yank him closer, and then slam my head down against his, busting up his nose and making him scream.

The fucking faggots he spews is barely heard over his little bitch-ass whines and the gurgling sound of blood as it drips down his face and into his mouth. But I still hear it, and that just pisses me off even more.

So, I grab his shoulder and yank him upright before tossing him clear across the table we’ve all vacated.

“The pizza!” Hector shrieks, and I think he’s serious.
