“It’s not as bad as you think. Besides, scars are sexy.”

Biting my bottom lip, I gaze up at his reflection in the mirror. His warm back touching mine. Fuck, we’re both in our underwear standing in a bathroom eye-fucking each other’s reflection in the mirror.

“You think I’m sexy?” My voice sultry, I bite my bottom lip. I’ve always had a thing for Big Chief, does he know it?

He grunts, stepping away from me like I’m fire.

“Let’s see how the scar turns out first,” he teases, leaving me in the bathroom.

The warmth that was building inside my chest is doused with a bucket of reality. I’m the club princess, I’m off limits to Big Chief. He wants his rocker, so he won’t dare go against my father’s orders. I can only imagine the threats my father spit at Big Chief before sending him to watch over me.

“Get dressed, we’re going to go get some pain reliever and Vaseline from the store for your face,” he hollers from the other room.

Wait, I’m not going anywhere. I have blood on my face, my clothes are damp and smell, and I need a shower. Stepping into the doorway of the bathroom, one hand on the doorframe, I watch him dress.

“I haven’t had breakfast, or a shower, plus check-out isn’t for another two hours,” I enlighten him, not wanting to get back in the truck so quickly and drive for days feeling dirty.

Pulling his shirt over his head, he covers his tight abs and glares at me with those angry blue eyes. They’re a different blue than Thane’s. They’re bluer and have an outline of gray.

“Why do you have to argue with everything?” he snaps, irritated with the way that I am. I shrug, turning back into the bathroom and turning the shower on hot. Steam billows from the room, fogging the mirror instantly.

“It’ll take you fifteen minutes. Go, I’ll be fine!”

Shutting the door behind me, I undo my bra and step out of my underwear. Loud knocks rap against the door and I cover my tits with my arms, my head lifting to the ceiling. Can’t a girl get a shower around here?

“Delilah, No. Get out of there right now,” he orders with a hard tone, like that’ll make me listen.

Grabbing the complimentary shampoo and conditioner off the bathroom counter, I pop one open and smell notes of flowers and vanilla. It’s not what I normally use, but the idea of any soap right now is pleasant.

“I said no,” I yell in return, placing my hand into the stream to test the temperature of the water. It’s hot and the idea of it cleansing my body of the abuse it encountered several hours ago almost has me moan.

“Delilah, you know you can’t get your stitches wet, right?” His voice takes a turn, sounding more gentle and southern. Shit. I forgot that.

“Yeah, I’ll figure it out,” I shout, looking at the showerhead and how I’m going to wash my hair and body and not get my face wet.

Stepping into the shower, I keep my back to the water and my face as far away from the mist as I can. So much shit has gone down and I’m having a hard time processing. Not to mention what is going to be said and done when I get back home. My dad will be pissed for sure, but where will I stay? I set my old room up for Piper’s new baby. I have nowhere to live. No car, no phone.

You always see inspirational quotes on the internet or hear about how so and so just followed their dreams. Just packed up and left, grew their wings and flew into success.

It’s bullshit. I mean you take off and fly for a few minutes but at some point you have to come down and I didn’t land on my feet, I fucking crash-landed. Thane talking to Bugs and the guys flashes behind my eyelids and I open them. Did Thane tell them to attack me? It had to be payback for what my brother and dad did. The whole thing was a setup. Like the shit I went through after he left town, without a way to contact him, wasn’t enough. I should have told him what happened, but it just wasn’t the right time.

My heart aches and I can’t help but want my mom at this very moment.

I don’t think it matters how old you are when things get so rough and impossible… a girl just wants her mother. Maybe I wasn’t ready to leave LA.

Big Chief

Pulling into Walmart, I climb out of my truck and head inside. Grabbing a cart, I head to the medical aisle and grab Tylenol, aspirin, Vaseline, Aquaphor, and Aleve. Hell, I don’t know what the fuck she needs, at least when it comes to over-the-counter shit anyway, so I’ll just get it all. Including some whiskey.
