“What if I have to fart?” I ask softly, my cheeks heating up with embarrassment.

He laughs like I’ve never heard him laugh before. It makes his eyes light up and his chest shake. He looks careless and free. “That’s cute.” He kisses my forehead and turns me around. Uncuffing me, he pulls my leotard, snapping it, and then slaps my ass once more. “Put your shorts on and go to work. I’ll see you in two hours.” With that, he dismisses me, avoiding my question that was not a joke.

THIRTY-FIVE

LAIKYN

I look at the clock to see I’ve got twenty minutes before I have to be upstairs in Tyson’s office. The plug bothered me at first, but I got so busy with my section that I eventually forgot about it.

Walking up to my new table, I see it’s Collin and some of his friends that we used to hang out with. “Lake.” He notices me and smiles.

My shoulders slump. I was hoping he wouldn’t see me, and I could hand this table off to someone else. But this is why Tyson makes me work here. To humiliate me. To show the world I’m his bitch. So I put a fake smile on my face. “Hey. What can I get you, guys?”

His friend Timothy looks up at me. His eyes fall to my chest, over my body, and then return to my breasts again. “Well, Little Miss Lake has grown up.”

“Right?” Collin reaches out and wraps his arm around my waist, pulling me into him. Much friendlier than when he’s shown up here before. It’s to show off to his friends, I’m sure. “I preferred the blond better, babe.”

I instantly pull away and look around to make sure no one saw. That’s all I need is for Bethany to go and tell my husband I’m cheating on him. That’s one way for her to get him on her side. Then she’ll have a plug up her ass. I ignore the comment about my hair. I don’t give a fuck what Collin prefers.

“What?” Collin laughs, noticing, and I’m pretty sure they’ve been drinking for quite some time tonight by the way his eyes are glassed over. “He won’t care, Lake.” Rolling his eyes, he sits back in his seat.

“Don’t tell us that you think Tyson married you because he actually loves you,” Timothy says, making all the guys laugh.

My chest tightens at his words. It’s the same thing my brother told me at the house of Lords. That had been our first and only public appearance as husband and wife. Other than that, I haven’t been allowed to go anywhere, so the fact that the world is now aware of my marriage to Tyson catches me off guard. I guess I hadn’t thought of that until now. “No, I—”

“He probably gave you Whitney’s ring,” a guy named Mickey adds.

I frown at his words and shake my head. “No. They were never engaged.”

Their laughter grows. Collin looks up at me. “They were, Lake.”

“No. They weren’t,” I argue. “I think I would have known if my sister was engaged.” My parents hated that she was his chosen. They would have never let it go that far. She was promised as a Lady to another Lord. But I was never told who it was. It was kept hush-hush.

He gives me a sympathetic look. “Just because they didn’t tell you, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen,” Collin says.

“Like I said.” Mickey looks at my ring. “That’s probably her ring.” His eyes rise to look over my face. “That’s probably why he had you dye your hair. To look more like her.”

I pull away, walk over to the server station, and slam down my tray. “Lake?” Beau calls out as I storm up the stairs and burst into his office, slamming the door shut so hard that it rattles the wall more than the bass that plays below us.

“You were engaged to my sister?” I shout, my heart is pounding and I’m shaking so hard. I can’t get it under control even if I wanted to.

He’s on his office phone. Without even telling them bye, he hangs up and sits back.

“Was this before or after you knocked her up?” I can’t help but ask.

TYSON

Senior year at Barrington

ME: She’s pregnant.

PRIVATE NUMBER: That’s not what we agreed on.

My teeth grind. Like I don’t fucking know that!

ME: What do I do now?

PRIVATE NUMBER: Do you have what we want?

ME: No.

PRIVATE NUMBER: Then you continue until you do.

Fuck! Another ding and I see a new message.

PRIVATE NUMBER: You may want to consider buying her a ring.

I watch my wife stand there with her hands on her hips. I don’t need to watch the rise and fall of her tits to know she’s breathing heavily. She’s pissed off at me for not telling her about my past. Too bad.
