FORTY-FOUR

TYSON

I enter the house and yawn. I’m exhausted from running back and forth between the club. This is why I stay there. It’s just easier. It’s been a long day and night. I’m tired as fuck and just want to get a quick nap in before I have to get up and do it all over again. I’ve had Lake hiding here for a week now, and I’m no closer to finding out who is after my wife as I was when I sliced that idiot’s neck open in the basement.

Walking through the living room, I sniff. The smell of food hits my nose and I take a left into the kitchen.

I see the formal dining room first; it’s got five tapered candles lit in the center of the table. They’re the candles from the Cathedral. The ones lit during our wedding ceremony.

Two plates are set across from one another. I walk into the kitchen and see her pulling a dish out of the oven. She sets it on the counter and turns to face me. Giving me a big smile, she drops her eyes to the floor before slowly meeting mine again.

“I wanted to make you breakfast. I hope you’re hungry.”

I’m not, but I say, “It smells lovely.” It’s also six in the morning. Did she even go to sleep last night?

Licking her lips nervously, she removes her apron from around her waist and folds it neatly on the counter. “Would you like a drink?” she asks, sliding her hands down her black dress. It’s got a high neck and comes to her knees. It’s not revealing in the sense that her tits and ass are hanging out, but it shows every curve her body has to offer. My hands itch to run all over it.

“Yes, please.”

She goes over to the island and pours me a glass of whiskey. Bringing it to me, she holds it out.

I throw it back in one gulp, and she takes it from me. “I’ll get you another one. Go take a seat. It’ll be ready in just a few minutes.”

I walk back over to the table and sit down. I’m not much for the romantic atmosphere, but I won’t lie and say I’m not excited that she stayed up for me to get home. I’ve mostly ignored her the past week. I come home bloody from beating some guy in the basement. And she’s passed out asleep in our bed when I get up and leave.

I undo the top button of my shirt, my skin starting to feel hot as she enters the formal dining room, carrying the dish.

“You okay?” she asks, her brows creasing. “You look flushed.” She places her hand on my forehead, and her frown deepens. “God, Tyson, you’re burning up.”

“I…” I clear my throat and undo another button. “Think I’m coming down with something.” My eyes get heavy, and my head bobs a few times. My neck unable to keep it up.

“You should lie down,” she suggests.

“Yeah.” I stand from my chair, but my knees give out, and I fall back into it. It feels like time stands still as everything slows. My eyes meet hers and I see her lips move, but I don’t hear anything over the blood rushing in my ears.

I blink a few times, the room starts to sway, and I place my hands over my eyes, trying to rub them. But my hands fall to my sides, and my head falls forward.

LAIKYN

I sit down in the seat beside him and watch his eyes close, and this time, they stay closed. I smile, reaching out and grabbing a grape and popping it in my mouth.

I drugged him. I had already placed the drugs at the bottom of his glass before he even got home. I then poured the whiskey into it; he didn’t even notice.

Teach him to drug me again.

I get up from my chair and grab the rope out of the drawer I put it in. I pull his chair away from the table. It scrapes across the floor, hurting my ears. I bend down, bringing his arm to the side and tie it to the back leg. Then I repeat the process to the other. There aren’t armrests so this will have to do. I grip his shirt and rip it open, the buttons flying across the marble floor.

Then I sit down and make my plate. I’ll eat breakfast while he’s out. When he wakes up—who knows when that will be—I’ll play with him like a toy. We’ll see how much he likes being taken advantage of and humiliated.

An hour later, I’m still sitting at the table when his head pops up, and he sucks in a deep breath.

“Well, hello there.” I smile at him.

“What?” He yanks on the rope, his head dropping to survey his situation. “What the fuck?” He yanks on them, the chair rattling from his force.
