“Why does it feel like I’ve known you forever?” I ask.

“Soulmates.”

His response is immediate and the smile he gives me is panty-melting. I look into his eyes and know he’s right. I can feel it. We are meant to be. I lean up to kiss him, but he’s already meeting me halfway. What starts as gentle and sweet turns passionate and heated in the blink of an eye. He lets out a grunt and then presses his forehead to mine, breaking our connection.

“Not until we are married.” He’s out of breath and I might be, too.

“You already broke that seal,” I laugh.

“I know, but you need some rest before I take you again.” He takes a deep breath and I see he’s made up his mind.

I know he’s right. I can still feel the tenderness between my legs, but I still want him inside me.

“Eat,” he tells me, placing a plate piled high with breakfast food in front of me.

“Always trying to make me eat,” I tease. “And I thought you couldn’t cook?”

“Yeah, don’t look at the bottom of those pancakes,” he says, and I see a slight blush on his cheeks. “Besides, you might be eating for two.”

I still at his words, knowing he’s right. The idea of having a baby makes excitement grow inside me. I love kids. It’s why I worked at a daycare. If it were up to me I’d have as many babies as my body could carry.

“You want kids?” I ask, but I realize it might be a little late for this conversation now.

“I want as many kids as you want,” he answers, kissing my hand.

I smile up at him. How is this all happening? It feels too good to be true.

He smiles at me. I glance away shyly to see a newspaper laid out with the front page showing. When I see what’s on it, my stomach drops. I grab it to look at the picture of Dane and me on it. There’s an article below about one of the most eligible bachelors finally being off the market and the two of us getting married.

“I…” I trail off, at a loss for words.

“I’m just glad they got us outside and not when we were doing other things,” he teases, but I can’t laugh. “Sweetheart, it’s fine. Once we are married we’ll be old news.”

He doesn’t know what this means. His words are sweet, but I’m still scared. But this is just a newspaper, so it’s not like it reaches outside the city. Right? Heck, I don’t even read newspapers.

“Eat your breakfast so I can make you my wife.” He lifts a piece of overly crispy bacon to my mouth and I take a bite.

“You really don’t think we need a prenup or something?” I ask.

“You’re never leaving me, so what’s the point?” He says it with so much confidence.

I’d brought it up last night, but he brushed me off then, too. I don’t understand how he can be so sure, but in my heart I feel it, too.

“What if I told you I was hiding? That someone was after me?” I wring my hands. I don’t want to have this conversation, but we need to.

His body stills at my words. “I would kill whoever was trying to hurt you.” His words are deadly, and something about the look in his eyes makes me believe him.

I glance at the newspaper and back to him. I trace my fingers down his face. I don’t want to lose him. He makes me feel whole and happy.

“I have a past and it could complicate things.”

“I’m your future and that’s all that matters,” he fires back, and I hope he’s right. “Go on,” he says, helping me stand up. “Go put your dress on so I can see how beautiful you look in it.”

I let the stress and anxiety slip away and focus on today. I’m getting married to a man who adores me and that’s the most important thing. I get ready and slip on my dress, wanting to be his as soon as possible. When I walk out of the room and see him in his tux it all becomes so real.

“You look breathtaking,” he says and places his hand over his heart like I’ve somehow hit him there.

Movement catches my eye and I glance over to see his mom standing nearby. She walks up and hugs me tightly.

“I’m sorry I questioned this. You’re perfect for him,” she whispers in my ear before releasing me. “Let’s get the two of you married.”

I smile at her and I’m thankful she’s okay with this. I know now she only wanted what was best for her son, and I can’t blame her for that.

Dane pulls me into his arms and kisses me softly. “I can’t wait for you to belong to me in every way.”
